I never went for the sit down thing at any age, unless it was Sanata. I have a photo from when I was about 7 with The Hulk and I'm standing!

My pal gets his picture with Santa every year despite being in his 40s, they are hilarious.

My favourite story about that is Santa once whispered during the photo "don't tell anyone but I'm Jewish" and my friend whispered back "So am I".

That poor kid, how embarrassing. I wonder if he ever lived that down?

Sitting on a superheroes' lap is an ill-advised concept to begin with. Seriously who thought that up? I feel most sorry for the guy in the costume. It was probably just some schmo who needed the cash for college, only to find out that near teenaged kids were actually expecting to sit on his lap.

When Spidey came to town when I was a kid, he sat on a stool, signed autographs and we stood next to him for the picture. I was maybe 10 and pretended it was no big deal to see Spider-man even though inwardly I was thrilled, but there is no way on Earth I would have sat on Spider-man's lap. Perhaps that's just reflective of my lifelong rule to never sit on am man's lap especially if that man is wearing tights.

Putting one arm around Spidey with a big grin on your face is fine. Sitting on his lap past age 8 or so could lead to permanent mental damage.

The kid in this picture slightly resembles a friend of mine so I emailed this to a bunch of friends stating - Picture of Ron with Spidey circa 1979

I got a reply that said - Picture of Aaron dressed as Spidey circa 1979

Totally opened myself up for that one

Looking in the photo, other things I love:

The kid on the far left in the Spiderman ringer shirt over a long sleeve shirt.
The dad with the long skinny Instamatic.
The piles of Polaroid film in the corner.
The two little kids in line seem to be playing with an action figure, but I can't tell what.
The hideous Superman your-face-here backdrop is wearing gloves, naturally.
What an intricate web the mall employees spun with clotheline!
Spidey is perched on a barrel with a pillow on it. Classy! No Christmas throne?
