I'm Jason Labowitz, co-owner of BifBangPow! I'd like to thank everyone for your interest in this product line, for taking the time to vote and for letting us know your opinion. 70% of you are interested in all-new movie-accurate head sculpts, so that’s what we’ll be working on. This is only the first of a number of steps that is needed before you can have your very own. Here's how our process works: the sculpts must be created, then approved by King Features, then we'll start accepting pre-orders. If the pre-orders meet our minimums, we'll be able to bring these to market. I can't comment on when these will be ready, what those minimum order quantities will need to be or the suggested retail pricing yet. All will be revealed in due time as we complete each step and are able to announce more details. Our company is thrilled to be starting down the road of making re-Mego figures. We are happy that you are a very supportive and vocal community to guide us and to back our new product line. We appreciate your feedback and wish you all the best this holiday season.

I just saw this thread. I mentioned somewhere before, but I vote for the Classic 1930s version. I truly believe that is the one that Mego used for the sculpt. (Buster Crabbe). The suit is off from the serials but the sculpt really looks as much like him as Robinhood did Errol Flynn and Ivanhoe did Robert Taylor.

Here's another image. I vote for the classic Mego (only in 8" format).

I've just read where those polls are closed and the 1980's movie version won. This disappoints me. Where is your sense of nostaligia? I suppose if it were up to you, the buzz bunny concept would have replaced the original McCoy here.

Fortunetally the kids of today's generation have a bit more sense. (of nostalgia of course)

If its a movie line then the actor likness makes the most sense.

Welcome Jason! I wish you the best of success in your Flash Gordon line!

That said however...the whole we can't start production unless we can get enough "pre-orders" thing totally puts me off...and usually leads to trouble down the line(ask Cast-A-Way). I honestly mean no offence...but I don't believe in paying for something that isn't ever made yet.

Good luck though...I really hope you pull it off!

It's nostalgia that led to the 80s movie version winning. I can't really speak for anyone else but me, but I don't have have nostalgia for movie serials that came out 30 years before I was born.

For me personally, it was the 1980 movie that got me interested in the classic serials and seek them out on VHS in the 80's ...

Before the 1980 movie, I basically had no interest in Flash Gordon.

The same can be said for Buck Rogers --- It was Gil's Buck that inspired me to seek out the old Crabb Bucks.

As far as the 70's cartoon and 50's TV show ... I never even heard of these until the late 1980's

So, Sam Jones and Gil Gerard really are MY nostalgic Flash and Buck.

I don't want to put words in Jason's mouth but I think he may mean retailer preorders in combination with consumer orders through such sites as Entertainment Earth etc et all. Which is how most things work, get the orders, make the product.

hobub, I'd like to respectfully ask you to go back to the first page and carefully re-read the first post. It clearly states that Bif Bang Pow's 8" Flash and Ming figures will be wearing costumes based on the 80's movie. The question that was posed to us was, if we had a choice, would we prefer the heads to be based on the actor's likenesses or the Mego Flash and Ming.

In other words, if the figures get made, they will be part of a line based on the 80's movie. I can't speak for everyone, but personally, I voted for the actor's likenesses because it doesn't make any sense to have Mego's Flash head sitting on top of a figure wearing a costume from the 80's movie. It make even less sense to have Buster Crabbe's head paired up with the 80's costume. That's why I think you may have misinterpreted the point of the poll.

Now, don't get me wrong. IF the point of the poll was to choose between 80's Flash and 30's Flash, I would have chosen 30's Flash in a heart beat! IF the point of the poll was to choose between 80's Flash and 8" repros of Mego Flash, I would have chosen Mego Flash in a heart beat. But neither of theses choices were presented to us. The only choice we were given in this poll was in regards to the heads they use on the figures.

As for the question of nostalgia, I would respectfully disagree with you here. Because nostalgia is relative. You have to consider that the 80's Movie is almost 30 years old at this point, making it old enough to have its own nostalgia. Heck, I was 12 years old when I saw that movie, and I fell head-over-heels in love with it. In fact I still love it! I love the cheesy dialogue and retro designs! I definitely have nostalgia for that movie. I'm not trying to suggest the the 80's movie is better than the 30's serials, I'm just trying to suggest the the 80's movie's fan base has given it its own mass and gravity, so to speak. It has stood the test of time to earn its own nostalgia.

P.S. - Oh, and I definitely LOVE that Queen soundtrack as well!!!

I wouldn't presume to debate you Brian. I just don't like when "pre-order" is used a pressure tactic such as...if we don't get enough pre-orders...the product won't get made. In cases like that my response is...I'll take my chances.

                            I agree...,
Having never watched Movie Serials of Any Kind growing up,.. Personally I can not sit threw Any of them Today Either. I do respect where concepts and Theme's came from,.. however thats where it stops, and could Care Less much pass that thought, or just looking at pictures.

I'd prefer to see a Buster Crabbe based serial line instead, but if they are doing the costumes based on the Sam Jones movie then it should be based on actor likeness. The serial were superior to the movie and If you actually watch them , you can see where Lucas "borrowed" a lot of Star Wars from.

SciFiGuyLA, Good point and well taken. I think all this will help Biff Bang Pow to understand both sides of the arguement. It opens ideas up a bit. I am just sorry I saw this late. I would have advocated my point a bit more. But you are right, the updated suits should be consistent with the updated sculpt. I just would much prefer the original (I am quite consistent with that stand. I have a visual image in my mind of how Flash Gordon looks and even having seen the 80's movie in the theatres, he still looks just like the images that I posted in my mind's eye).

I'm also old enough to have wished Mego would have followed the 8" suit with this stuff. They would have gone great with the Star Trek line. But of course they did not and my Flash Gordon, though the look was correct, towered over my other original Megos like someone of an 8-9 foot stature.

This to me IS Flash Gordon.
The movie version was revised to reflect the 1979-1980's. I think following Mego SH popularity, the comic version seems to have more stamina than the movie version.
Mego did very well sticking to the guns of originality to a character. Their movie versions in 12" scale do much less. 8" Mego Superheroes and Treks were not based on movie versions but comic versions (Of course Trek has the actor likeness but the show had an icon status that transcended the 60's or 70's as recognizability). Anything else will not go as well. Several mego collectors nowadays are into too much detail. Mego did not do that. The figures that they did based soley on actors likeness for movies and tv shows of the 1970s are pretty much stuck in the 70's. The others are collected by all and the character's image or look predates the 70's. All I can offer is that if this character looks like the original Flash Gordon, I will indeed want a set. I hope they consider to do both since it seems like the choice has been made on the side of the 1980 Movie Flash Gordon and not the Original King Feature Character as it looked from the 1930's to 1980 and therafter sharing a look with the 1980 movie. At least Ming looks the same in both arenas.
