Um.....seriously, can someone tell me if this is a for-real picture, and if so, do Marvel fans have to worry about something similar?

Truth be told, I don't know what implications this purchase will have on
Marvel's licensing agreements in the near future, but I was excited
to hear this news this morning because I think it's good news for
            Marvel.

The people who ultimately make the decision regarding Marvel megos
may not change at all, or it will be championed or nixed on a higher
level. I have faith that there is a story being told here and it is not
            ending yet.

The issues I have of the DC/Looney Tunes crossover are actually fun to read.

As for Marvel/Disney. I can see all sorts of great opportunities developing, including perhaps sometime down the road Pixar being asked to animate one or more of the characters.
              It's all good!

                Hmmmm....

I dunno if this is a good thing.... I mean, it'll be good for exposure and sales.... but as for quality of content I have my doubts. I'm really leary of the big business formula for entertainment. I think countless focus groups, surveys and product polling is bad for the creative process, and this merger adds yet another layer of it to the Marvel comics.

Although, it seems to me like the comics themselves are currently the forgotten wing of the massive media comglomerate that is Marvel Entertainment. So maybe this won't have any tangible effect at all on the actual books?

Now they need to do Kingdom Hearts 3. That's a video game that would really rock. I hope Square Enix is paying attention.

Looks like disney hates competition. I'm not so sure this is a great deal, unless you own a ton of stock.

From what I'm reading Universals contract on the Marvel characters is undated and as long as they meet the terms of the contract the Marvel Island of Adventure will exist. I haven't found it written but did see something that implied that the rights to the state are included which means Disney could not put a Marvel theme park in either Florida or California. There was a line in a Disney release that stated Marvel related stuff in foreign markets but restrictions due to existing contracts here in the states. Disney in essence can't open a theme park with Marvel characters but can make profit from Universals success with one.

I highly doubt it'll impact the comics themselves - the characters are the main attraction here, and their exposure to kids is mostly through movies, cartoons, and merchandise tie-ins (toys, video games, etc.). That's what Disney really wants: they've already got the pre-teen to teen girl maket locked up with Hannah Montana, the Princesses, High School Musical, etc. Marvel will bring in the pre-teen to teenage male market that Disney covets.

Comic books at this point are ancillary; they don't really bring in the kids like they used to (hence no new audience - the biggest problem with comics nowadays IMHO), as it's mostly older collectors hitting the comic shops as it's been since during and after the '90s boom.

Now, if only Jiminy Cricket can work his magic and bring back the Spider-marriage....
"It's sad that governments are chiefed by the double tongues. There is iron in your words of death for all Comanche to see, and so there is iron in your words of life. No signed paper can hold the iron. It must come from men. The words of Ten Bears carries the same iron of life and death. It is good that warriors such as we meet in the struggle of life... or death. It shall be life."
