I was sitting here thinking some more about this subject and it occurred to me I had a Jane West and did not feel uncomfortable about her. Same with Zira, and more recently, had a GI Jane from the GI Joe Classic Collection and didn't feel weird. And suddently it occurred to me: When it's a female, if it has lifelike hair, it seems like a doll, but if it's a female with plastic hair, it seems like an action figure.
Weird, huh?n
Actually, I'd think it would be the removable clothing.. perhaps more so than the hair. But, yes, as for Zira, she would seem more like 'another ape'..
And humble apologies to any and all simians reading this that I have just insulted.
I think the only female Mego I had was Uhura... and YES I did undress her.
If any boy say's they didn't undress their female Mego's they're lying out of their teeth
A pretty big weird vibe from my dad regarding Batgirl, Uhura and
especially Daisy.
My dad's actually a pretty cool guy too.
I can only imagine what some fathers reacted like back in the 70s/early 80s.

I received the 12" Wonder Woman for my birthday one year. That one SCREAMED "DOLL". I was only 3 or 4, but VERY uncomfortable with it. I don't recall every playing with her. I gave her coat and glasses to my 8" Mego Superman.
Later on, I had an 8" Daisy Duke, but she came in the set of figures from Sears. I still felt kind of weird about her then, and she got little play. By the time I got into MOTU figures, I had the "collect them all" mentality, and I bought Teela, Evil-Lyn, and eventually the first wave of She-Ra figures! I felt they were part of the MOTU line. As soon as I had them though, I felt weird about them. And I should have!!!

I undressed and redressed my Barbies. I mean, come on, they couldn't wear the same thing every day. That would be tacky.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Them and my male Megos. Had this weird thing when I was a kid of wanting to see what color underwear they had. Was a little shocked to find out the females went commando.

When I was little I brought my Bionic Woman doll to show and tell. It was my favorite show and I didn't think nothing of it. I was probably about 5 or 6 at the time.
The boys in my class went absolutely berzerk. You would have thought I was up there speaking in tongues or trashing their favorite sports team or something. Later during break I got attacked by the boys in my class and shoved into the girls rest room "because that's where I belonged." Insecure even at that age.

Incredible. What people won't do to feel superior.

Yeah...it did feel a little weird getting them, but I liked the characters and read them in the comics. I had so many of them it really wasn't that big a deal to get them.
I had a couple of Batgirls, and then W.W., Supergirl and Catwoman...never had the others until much later when I started collecting them as an adult.
I still even have my original W.W. and Supergirl figures, they are the only one's to survive my childhood!
I had plenty of female Megos as a kid. My dad was a violent, abusive alcoholic, but at least he didn't seem to differentiate between "boy toys" and "girl toys."
My seven year old son likes playing with Littlest Pet Shop toys, and I have always done my best to make him feel comfortable playing with whatever he likes. Of course, other parents are not always quite so enlightened, and pass down the typical prejudices to their children, who then look aghast at my kid for liking a "girl toy."
One day, a friend of his was over and came across my son's Littlest Pet Shop figures.
"Why do you have these?" he asked.
I could see my son looking nervous, so I chimed in with, "They're mine. I love them!" That shut the kid up.
