    Upcoming WGSH Spotlight: Superman

Now that the dust has settled from the SDCC, we thought it might be fun to take a look individually of wave one of Mattel's World's Greatest Superheroes line (which is, still trippy to say) and hey, it'll pass the time until Spring right?

So, courtesy of World's Greatest Toys author Benjamin Holcomb is the Superman prototype, a very fitting choice for wave one as he is part of the "original four".

Eventhough his look has been altered, there is something very familiar about Supes, you can almost hear Danny Dark's voice coming out of this figure.

"I'll extinguish that fire with my Super-Breath!"

        Super-confident, super-monolougeing, Super Friends Superman!!!

I will admit, Mego Supe's half curl always bothered me. It's supposed to make an "S"!

Way to update him, but keep that Mego feel. Perfect!!!

I must say I was the least excited about this one, but now he's totally growing on me. I will definately pick up a couple. The improvements are minor, but are also key details. The belt loops help out a ton. That emblem is sharp and clean, and the head sculpt is great. This will be an enjoyable set of threads.
"Steel-like jaws clacked away, each bite slashing flesh from my body - I used my knife and my hands, and when they were gone, my bloody stumps - and yet the turtles came."

Was it someone we know ?

I love it. It says classic Mego with a modern touch.

Think B.A. Where did you hide the Megos?

I like the new sculpt. Will look even better when converted to the conventional rubber mold. I think everything on this Superman is right. It pays all of the proper homage while adding a few updates to give him some distinction. One question: Will he have the insigna on his cape? I couldn't tell. If not, I think that would be a nice addition to complete him.

These are great pictures, Ben. It's neat that we now get the up close look at the prototypes and can folloow the whole line very closely, like could nver be done with Mego.

Hey Dave, can we get these added to the ReMego gallery now?

I will say one thing in response to the comments. This is a nice head sculpt, and I'm glad they are doing new ones, but I LOVE the original Mego sculpt very much. I've been looking at that Superman face since I was 5 years old and he's always been a very close friend! Don't be dissing the man.

Things I like and dislike about the two Superman sculpts (old and new)

Old sculpt looks more like a real person .. The new sculpt is a bit cartoonie.

New sculpt looks more like Superman .. Old sculpt looks like any guy off the street.

Old sculpt looks better scaled to the body .. New sculpt looks a little big

New sculpt is classic/modern looking ... Old sculpt looks outdated today.

Both sculpts have their goods and not so goods - so they even eachother out

To me, WGSH and Super Friends go hand-in-hand! Both big parts of my childhood. (Are you listening Mattel?)

Looks great--I'm thrilled & excited at the prospect of each of them.

Will the suits be Lycra (yechh) or a more traditional single-knit polyester like Emce used?
