I'd buy every one at $9.99.
I'd start picking and choosing at $14.99.
I might buy one at $18.99.
I'd buy none if they were over $20.
That's assuming buying at a brick & mortar store. Start charging me shipping on top of that and I get even more picky.
Plus I'd be more apt to purchase some as gifts at $9.99 rather than just buy for myself. There's no way in hell I'd pay $80 for 4 new toys, especially as a gift for a youth.
Oh, and let's not continue this practice of some figures only available in two-packs unless they are going to cost less than buying two individual figures because maybe some people might not want both figures.
I'd say $20 is not unreasonable, but on the other hand if Hasbro put out a 12" Indiana Jones figure that has a rubber face and talks for $20, these 8" figures should be able to come in around $15 one would think.
Should be able to find out fairly soon. Toys R Us puts things in there master system fairly early , even months in advance. I have a few friends at the home office and stores around the country and I will check to see if I can find out anything. Those are the same friends I am hitting up for shipping cases and displays
We're over thinking things here. What's the EMCE stuff go for on there now? 18 bucks or somewhere around there? And they were what, ten bucks at FAO before Toys R Us bought them out? So that's where I would put the price range.
Obviously cheaper is more appealing and I'll be more apt to buy multiples upon multiples for play with my son, for gifts, and for my own collection if the price is close to $15. One of the reasons my son doesn't have any of Doc Mego's stuff right now is because with our situation, we can't really afford to buy as many as I'd like. I have slowly been buying everything in the 8" format from Doc Mego and recently Cast-A-Way, although my buying has slowed down this year. If Mattel's price is the same as Doc Mego's, then I'll buy every one of them. I know my son will want some of the characters, i.e. Sinestro & Green Lantern & Superman, and at Doc Mego's prices, my son would get them for sure. But if the price is better, I'll naturally buy my son all of them just to fill out his Super Hero & Super Villain ranks. As a consumer, cheaper is more appealing, but Mattel and Toys R Us have to make their profit. If Mattel doesn't make their money on the line, why continue with it? At $15 or less I'd likely buy 3 or more of each figure. $15 to $20 and I'll buy maybe two of each. Over $20 and I'll most likely only buy 1 of each and just give them to my son. I want this line to succeed and continue, and I'll support it as best I can. Naturally, I'll be more willing to buy more of the same figure if the price is good to me. I see Doc Mego's figures as collectibles. I'm hoping Mattel will market these more for kids. I think it would be wiser. With popular DC cartoons on Tv and the success of Superhero films right now, I think this line could be successful if marketed to kids. But what do I know? Seriously.
Well let's hope that if they are going to be priced similarly to Treks, that they are available through Diamond, because if they are, then we should see similar deals as the EMCE figures distributed through myself, Doc, and others. Not sure I feel like competing with TRU, but if they overprice them, then the game is on. Bring it Geoffrey!
To be honest, I hope they market these for kids and not the collector. I have my collection of my childhood memories. I want my kids to be able to get their own to play with and use as much as I played with WGSH in the 70's.
Also if you look at what happened with the ST line at BlockBuster?
The price kept jumping, till finally marked down to $9.99 for close out.
So taken out of the specialty shopes, where we buy. And given to the general public. They can't get as much.
