If they are selling the Joes for that, there may be hope that this line could be around $15 or so. The cheaper they can retail these for, the more chances they will sell beyond us, which means more for us, and more for the kiddies.

Let's remember it's not just the manufacturer setting the price though - hence the "bigger retailers wiggle room" statement. TRU will negotiate with Mattel the final price at retail. Mattel's angle will be production cost per unit vs wholesale price = profit margin, with an understanding that higher sales volume means higher return on product development cost and overall profit. The TRU perspective will be unit wholesale cost vs retail price times number of units sold, with the understanding that a) the lower their cost at outset the larger the margin, and b) buyers will have a price ceiling that if exceeded will hurt or limit sales.

The biggest pricing factor will be the quantity that TRU orders... If I get 2,000 units ordered, I have a LOT of production cost to make up for so my wholesale will be high, and of course conversely if I have 200,000 units ordered I can spread my up front cost over the bulk of units to a limited degree.

It's in both parties interest to keep the price competitive. I think 14.99 is an extreme possibility, but I expect the figures will more likely end up between 17.99 and 21.99. If TRU judges that sales will still be strong, or Mattel has a higher unit price it may just push the 24.99 envelope, but I think both that high and the 15 dollar low are unlikely outliers.

      So I vote $18.99

I agree with you Tothiro. The only thing I would change is $17.99 is a more appealing price point (not just because it's less) but because certain retail price points have pizzaz. $18.99 looks too much like 20 bucks.

Since Mattel can pump out more volume, I would expect a lower price than a limited release from an online site. That makes total sense. But, of course, we are talking about ToyRUS and as an exclusive, I'm sure they will stick it to the collector. I look at it like this -If it hits shelves at $20.00 a pop, I will buy one of each and wait for the prices to fall should I want more. At those prices, the collectors market will only buy up so much and then they will collect dust. If the prices are more in line at $14.99 and Mattel wants to sell to the younger crowds too, then I'll buy multiples when they hit because I don't believe the supply will outlast the demand and the chances of getting extras at a discount may become less likely. I sure hope Mattel is reading this thread. Price it for the whole market, not just to the collectors. We collectors are a stingy lot if we think the product is overpriced (mainly because we like to buy ALOT OF IT). Price it right and you get alot more bang for your production dollar. This may be a novelty but when it comes to the almighty dollar, you can't get too rich on pricey, high volume figures when there's a secondary market that will lap up the leftovers at a price collectors will pay. This is no longer 1975. We have alot of players in the "Mego" game now. It pays to be competitive with your pricing. Implement a good reputation early and this line could go for a long time and make Mattel alot of money.

What about shipping? You have to factor that in as well, unless they are widely available in stores. I have no problem paying 15-20 bucks in a store purchase, but if I have to pay shipping, I'm more likely to try and buy several at once to ship together. Bottom line is, I'm just going to save money specifically for these, so I don't have to hesitate when they come out. Questions like how many?? One of each?? Two of each?? Blah blah, send those bad boys, and ignor your inner dialogue.

For the Mattel WGSH, I would pay $20 ea. without hesitation, but collectors are a notoriously cheap lot. I'm hoping Mattel really targets the current generation of kiddos... in which case I hope the price is as low as possible.

              $14.99 sounds really fair, comparatively!

Well said. If they can get the price down closer to $15, I would consider that a fair deal. At that price, I'll begin to influence all my nephews and nieces with soem Mego-ey goodness

When walmart carried the Adventure Team reproductions a couple of years ago, they were $9.99.

I'd buy every one at $9.99.
I'd start picking and choosing at $14.99.
I might buy one at $18.99.
I'd buy none if they were over $20.
That's assuming buying at a brick & mortar store. Start charging me shipping on top of that and I get even more picky.
Plus I'd be more apt to purchase some as gifts at $9.99 rather than just buy for myself. There's no way in hell I'd pay $80 for 4 new toys, especially as a gift for a youth.
Oh, and let's not continue this practice of some figures only available in two-packs unless they are going to cost less than buying two individual figures because maybe some people might not want both figures.

Since we're looking at what can be classified as a store exclusive (notice TRU is the only store listed, no Target, no Walmart etc.) I would say the price will be closer to $20.

If Target and Walmart were carrying them too, that would be different. The price would fluctuate between $10 and $20, since there would be competition.

As it is, it'll be TRU and online stores, possibly Diamond distributing to Comic Shops? TRU will be on the cheaper side at maybe $18, with comic shops at the high end $25.

                          I'd guess $19.99. That's pretty fair.

well, at least if they're $20 and in Toys R Us stores ... should be somewhat easy to find them at retail and pick them up, since the price will be too high for the "Hot Wheels" scalpers nab them all to sell in order to fund their die cast hobby

If they manage to price them under $15, then I have some hope for their longer term run, as that is probably a price point parents might pay. $18 - $20, and we are looking at a mainly collectible item, and I doubt it will generate the buzz to go as far as I'd personally like. The ultimate goal for me would be for Marvel and Hasbro to see the success of the line and decide to put out their own true 8 inch versions, with at least a compatible neck plug. A secondary goal would be for Mattel to pick up some other licenses and put out figures on the same body. Perhaps an Action Jackson style line to compete with GI Joe. I think they already try that a bit with Max Steel (?). I'd hope for a Robot Chicken line from Mattel, but I don't think that quite fits their corporate image.

Funny Question... I was actually in Walmart Today... Thinking About this very same Question, while looking at the 3&3/4 inch figures ... Joe's , Star Wars, Wolverine & Marvel are all 7.89 at the Walmarts up here .... Add the bigger size... these are going to be over 20 with tax imo.
