Remember the Toy Biz Marvel Famous Covers 9" Mego-like figures that started 12 YEARS ago back in 1997? These were FUN and reminded me of Mego 8" Marvels in a GOOFY sort of way! I think only TRU, Target, and KB Toys carried these! The 1st wave included Spider-Man, Green Goblin, Storm, and Wolverine! I still like Mego Spidey and GG BETTER! Storm was the BEST of the wave, Wolverine's RUBBER REMOVEABLE mask was too BULKY and would tear from taken it off and on! Aunt May was a mail-away! Exaggerated facial expressions were a problem and inconsistent glove-types- Dark Phoenix and Daredevil had ovenmitts, Green Goblin and Captain America had rubber gloves, and Black Widow, Falcon, and others had PAINTED hands! Some figures like Thor and Iron Man IMPROVED on their Mego predecessors! The line lasted 42 DIFFERENT figures, including 6 2-packs! Figures were $15 each at 1st but were reduced to $10 each beginning with the 4th wave! The line became Diamond comic book store EXCLUSIVES at the end! I would say Hasbro's 2006-2007 Spider-Man Origins Signature Series 9" Megos were BETTER than Famous Covers, though! What I would give to be able to pay $10 for a NEW Marvel Mego TODAY!

I still have all of mine (including pinhead screaming Cap!)
Of all of them, I really liked the Iron Man, Thor and Hulk (who sometimes stands in, with the Megos for reasons of scale). The Red Skull, Magneto and Green Goblin were quite good too.
The female sculpts were really ugly though, weren't they?
Remember the customizing group on Yahoo? A lot of nice stuff came out of that...
Sure, they weren't Mego's but between the originals (and the customs I still have), I'm glad I still have them.
Is it REALLY 12 years? Wow... that went by fast! -
I remember when i first saw them, the first thing that came to mind was Megos. I only had a few but my brother had them all"Time to nut up or shut up"-Tallahassee

I was pretty excited but didn't care for Toyfare's "these are better than Mego" slant. I found them charming but awfully flawed, the proportions really bothered me.
There was a real poostorm on the fledgling mego mailing lists about them, I seem to recall a small group left to create their own Famous Covers list.Places to find PlaidStallions online: https://linktr.ee/Plaidstallions

I admit I was excited about them - right up until I saw them at TRU. Wrong size", the proportions were terrible and the price was crazy. But some weren't too bad - Sabretooth, Iron Man, Wolverine, Rogue amoung others.sigpic WANTED: Boxed, Carded and Kresge Carded WGSHComment

1) Captain America - After ALL this time, still a sucky rendition..
2) Vision - Excellent face sculpt and outfit.., WHY the big boots..?
3) Hawkeye - Excellent suit/accessories.., WHY the disappointing face sculpt..?
4) DD/Black Widow - WHY the big boots/mitts on DD, scary sculpt on Widow..?
Thor, Ironman, Doom, Goblin, and Skull are among the better renditions, as was the FF, but again, would have liked a Thing and Johnny Storm without having to customize. I know the XMen movie was hot around this time.
Iron and Falcon did make for my Yellowjacket..:

I was happy to see them out, but I couldn't get behind them much. After buying Spidey, Goblin and Cap, the coolness of new "Megoesque" figures faded. The perplexing face of Peter Parker, the Joker-grin of the Goblin, and the roid-rage pinhead Cap were really bad. I chalk it up to Marvel's fascination with the "bigfoot" artists of the late 90s (Maduriera, Ramos, etc). The Hasbro DC figures were MUCH nicer, but unfortunately didn't last very long. The Hasbro Marvel figures were a vast improvement, but for some reason, overall they seem very dull.

I still like them and I'm still looking for a few.
I think Hulk, Iron Man, Hawkeye, Vision, etc are good figures.
I'm starting a Famous Covers Rescue Center.....
Admittedly, some female face sculpts were ugly....
