15 YEARS ago Playmates Star Trek 9" Megos started- 1994

Remember the Playmates Star Trek 9" Mego-like figures that started 15 YEARS ago back in 1994? 89 different ones were made (even though a 5th of them were Kirks (10) and Picards (8))! I thought they were pretty cool! I wish more CLASSIC ALIENS were made (Andorian, Gorn, and Mugato were made in 12" scale)! Overall a wide variety were offered FAR surpassing Mego 8" Star Trek! The VOID was filled until the EMCE Mego Star Trek! And, I thought $15 was TOO EXPENSIVE for a LARGE scale CLOTH costumed figure back in the 1990s!

They were all but impossible to find up here, until near the end of the run...then they suddenly were everywhere, and the prices started crashing.

If they were a true Mego scale, I'm sure I would be more into these, but as they were...I only picked up a couple.

I liked them very much, the costumes and accessories were awesome. I have a few different Spocks and a couple of those Kirks you mentioned.

The only thing that bugged me was the lack of wrist articulation, for some reason I wanted them to move like my Mego

I really like these as well, and have a bunch in my collection to this day, and I am sure I will get more. I do agree I wish these were 8" scale instead of 9" . Anyways regardless I still like them.

Between Playmates 9" and 12" Star Trek figures, I literally lost thousands of dollars collecting them.

I was such an idiot for thinking they might go up in value

Today they're worth less then used toilet paper

I managed to snag many of these 9" & 12" figures when KB Hobbies started to look like they were going down for the count back in 2003,(?). I even got some of the rare Mirro/Mirror figure exclusives-vulgarly overpriced. Even discounted the Mirror/Mirror figures were not cheap.

Playmates managed to do a wide variety of characters and tho you may feel cheated that they do not seem worth as much as they should be I agree with 60'schild-I was glad to get them because I love to have them. The fact that most are affordable means I can track down the ones I never bought the first time around. The Sculpts for most are quite good. I hope Doc Mego can do many more classic Trek characters.

These were really great figures. It was a good line. I wish I had them all.

I stopped after Kirk and Spock. Couldn't get into the 9 inch scale and couldn't really grasp why they tried to make Mego like figures but not actually make them in Mego scale.

Same with the Famous Covers, if you are going for that retro Mego style it makes no bloody sense to not actually go that extra little bit and make them true Mego size. I still can't wrap my mind around that.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

They were hard to find down here when they first came out so i never really got bigtime into em but i did snag a Spock and Kirk but i opened both and put em the book shelf as i brought them to enjoy not to later resale and buy a new Vette with the profit

They, like the FC line was hit/miss. Yes, the lack of waist and wrist articulation sucked more than you think at first, plus the hands were big.. The Kirk head sculpt was very nice, but Spock was terrible.

It was nice having the NG Klingons and Romulans made.., and like mentioned here, the accessories are nice to use with the Megos. Looking to get a Vulcan harp for my Spock.

The 'First Contact' Picard coat's great as a custom improvement for your Denys Tom Baker.

Most folks have liked the Environmental outfit used on the 8" Megos, but I'm planning on just buying the silver 8" custom outfit made and just moving all the colored lines and helmet to that for a tighter fit. Just a little sewing to do.

Are the playmtes tunics workable on the EMCE bodies? I love the mego scale and have a great bond with te figures, but really like te detail in the playmates clothing.

I think I still have the complete line of 8'' and 12'' in storage and maybe a couple of doubles.

I actually love these and at one time had the complete set of the original series characters and was trying to piece together the NG guys when I had to sell my entire collection a few years ago in a financial crunch. Now I am trying to slowly piece them together again. As a few others stated here I could care less about after market value. I just love the figures. Marlena Moreau was awesome.
