A little while back, I was in one of my local comic shops and picked up this just to examine.

I was struck by how oddly comforting it was to hold it, and it wasn't until I had bought it and brought it home and placed it on the shelf with my other Spiderman figures, that it occurred to me how similar it felt to wandering around as a kid holding onto my 12" Spiderman Mego. Particularly that retro-looking head. Usually most Spiderman toys these days have those huge white expressive bug-eyes that typify the MacFarlane or Bagley versions.

I used film containers for a wide variety of accessories for my figures, but the thing that probably makes me stop and think about playing with toys as a kid is when I see some small area while walking around in every-day life that looks like it would have been an awesome setting for some heroic battle with my toys.
Nostalgia just ain’t what it used to be.

The egg things, the "banana" boats, the gumball machine things...I did all that too. got me to thinking...A&W used to have these little orange plastic pitchfork things that came with their fries...it was meant as a fork. I used to collect these and use them for weapons with Megos (and later 3 3/4" figures). I also used to get in trouble for taking those little metal spools from Moms sewing machine to use as computer spools. In the seventies all computers had to have those two big metal spools...it was the fashion of the day!!

I did this as a kid...and still do it today. I fondly recall walking around the greenhousees and arboriteums at the Calgary Zoo and thinking how cool it would be to have that for a play area. Sticking Johnny West in the desert section with all the cactus' and such. Planet of the Apes in the jungle area.
I was at the Dinosaur park part of the Zoo last year and found myself thinking the exact same thoughts while strolling through the rocks, ponds and jungle areas.

I used to use the purple and green plastic nets that grapes came bunched in as webbing for my Spider-man. I also used to use empty Swiss Miss pudding containers as Star Trek chairs.
            It's all good!

I used the little swords from drinks for mego weapons.Same as old mcdonalds/dairy queen forks they were red and looked like pitch forks.

I used to take those plastic "basket" containers that tomatoes came in (still see them sometimes) and use for stretchers. They looked like rectangular crates and the tomatoes were lined up in a row in them. Depending on how many tomatoes there were, they could fit either megos or GI Joes.
