Thought I'd see how many people go the extra mile to make their figures, playsets, etc. top notch.
What's the first thing you do when you get a new figure? Do you just say, ok, looks nice and shelve it? Or do you strip it right down, clean and do repairs on it?
For me I strip it down to check it all out. Everything gets washed! Clothes, boots, gloves, even the bodies. If the heads are really grubby, they get alcohol rub.
Then comes any repairs. Cracked or chewed parts are replaced. Another reason I'm so keen on T2's. Easy tear downs.
I've done T1's with some success. That can be fun! NOT! Do you know how hard it is to straighten out those rivits? Then putting enough pressure on the replacement pieces to make it tight enough to tap the rivit end down to where it's tight enough to function properly?
I know it sounds easy, but you haven't seen how much I go into the details of it
Many of times I've had butter dishes of clothes soaking. Then drying's another fun sight! When you COULD get huge lots cheap! Now they're few and far between.
Busted seams get fixed too. Sometimes I've had to redo the whole outfit, just to look right.
Just recently I've replaced snaps because of the yukky oxidation on them.
Painting only if there's no choice. Sometimes fixing nasty rubs out weigh the original paint.
Now playsets? Yeah, they're bigger, so bigger for holding nasties! All surfaces get a gentle wash. Chairs, tables, all of it.
I just try to make the best of what I get. And to me, that makes my goodies more personal!
