Mego cleanliness - Are you obsessive?

Thought I'd see how many people go the extra mile to make their figures, playsets, etc. top notch.
What's the first thing you do when you get a new figure? Do you just say, ok, looks nice and shelve it? Or do you strip it right down, clean and do repairs on it?
For me I strip it down to check it all out. Everything gets washed! Clothes, boots, gloves, even the bodies. If the heads are really grubby, they get alcohol rub.
Then comes any repairs. Cracked or chewed parts are replaced. Another reason I'm so keen on T2's. Easy tear downs.
I've done T1's with some success. That can be fun! NOT! Do you know how hard it is to straighten out those rivits? Then putting enough pressure on the replacement pieces to make it tight enough to tap the rivit end down to where it's tight enough to function properly?
I know it sounds easy, but you haven't seen how much I go into the details of it
Many of times I've had butter dishes of clothes soaking. Then drying's another fun sight! When you COULD get huge lots cheap! Now they're few and far between.
Busted seams get fixed too. Sometimes I've had to redo the whole outfit, just to look right.
Just recently I've replaced snaps because of the yukky oxidation on them.
Painting only if there's no choice. Sometimes fixing nasty rubs out weigh the original paint.
Now playsets? Yeah, they're bigger, so bigger for holding nasties! All surfaces get a gentle wash. Chairs, tables, all of it.
I just try to make the best of what I get. And to me, that makes my goodies more personal!
    Wants, original parts; thinking...
It's the quiet ones you gotta watch!

I usually take the clothes off and wash them, except when I brought my Teen Titans guys home. They had been carefully stored by the seller and were nice and clean when I took them out. Plus, I didn't want to mess with those tight gloves unless I had to! I love washing batches of clothing though, seeing the change when you take them out to dry. I frequently swap broken T2 parts, and I restring T1's, but I've never really worked on the metal rivets. Maybe you could explain that in more detail sometime, T.

I clean outfits and repair bodies when they need it.
Otherwise I leave most figures alone.

I also store and display my figures in clear plastic bags because I smoke -- and I don't want my figures to get nasty.

If I get a figure that looks pretty minty, I leave it as is. If the figure or outfit looks like they could use a cleaning, I strip them and do so. And if something needs repairing, I do my best to fix it. I don't know why, but it's kind of fun scrubbing down a new figure I just got in the mail.

I have a Two-Phase Air Filter running on top speed in my Toy Room.

It filters air through a normal paper filter and also through a carbon filter. It's supposed to filter down to 3 microns or something like that. So far, I haven't found many microns on my toys.

The room is also adjacent to the air handler, which also filters the air.

I also bought some Remove-Zit for stains. This stuff is MIRACULOUS!! One jar seems to be a lifetime supply also. It actually comletely removed heavy ink from a vinyl Superman belt. Not to mention what it can do for face bluing, green spots, unknown.

All of the above (almost). It's kind of fun to clean the dirt off a figure/clothes (stains not so much fun!) and see it start to sparkle again. I've never tried redoing the metal rivets. I would also be interested in a pic-tutorial on this as I've seen quite a few with broken legs, etc that would be cool to have a good repair process for.
This brings up a question I've been meaning to ask for quite some time. Actually I've asked it before but got no answer. I think my question was taken as the equivalent of drawing a moustache on the Mona Lisa.
What brand/type/etc paint is used to make the closest match to the original Mego paints if I want to touch up paint rubs on the head? I think I have a right to do this if I want to. Some I leave alone but some are just annoying to look at. Blondes look especially hard to match I would think?

I have yet to try and wash any clothes. I'm a scared! I have an Iron Man suit that is pretty bright, but it has a few darker spots on one leg. If I can figure out how to do it without affecting the button (or taking it off), I'd like to experiment with that one.

Usually I just look at the face, but after I'm done they get thrown in the pile. I throw them in the pile, half naked or not, in whatever condition they are.

Some people swear by Woolite, but tell you what, reds and blues BLEED! For me anyway. I use very little of shampoo as a start.
Then if that don't work, I go to something else.
Most dirt and grime is protein based, so shampoo is not as crazy as it sounds. Start with two drops to a pound tub.
I use my fingers to rub with. Toothbrushes have made many a scars in clothes! And I'm not brutal.

                      Just be careful using Oxiclean

Oxiclean is great ... BUT, sometimes colours will run and bleed using it.

Oxiclean did a great job on 99% of my collection, but ruined mt Neptunian's suit.
Well, it didn't ruin it, but it did make the colours bleed into eachother and made the cape look like a tie-dyed shirt.

I'll wash them if needed. In lukewarm soapy water. Just leave them to soak for a while.
                        Restitch loose seams.
If it's from a smoker, I'll leave them in a bag with those tissues you put in your washer/dryer.
If them come from someone I dislike, I'll exorcise them. Always cleanse your dolls before re-use.

And never, ever, wash your Aquaman. 'cause you won't get him out of the tub again...

I wouldnt say I'm obsessive, but I do make any and all repairs needed to bring a figure up to snuff. If it arrives in ok shape, I leave it alone though.
