I have to say it was very cool to see all the Namath figures lined up at MM dressed in the different outfits.

I'm perplexed as to what Mego's game plan was here. It seems marketed towards boys but the outfits are definitely in girl's territory.

Makes you wonder if the outfits were taken from his actual wardrobe.

Maybe they were trying a crossover type idea. A sports hero that boys would buy and extra clothes for girls to add to their fashion armadas.

I thought it looked like a shelf full of animated Ringo from the megomeet picture. Especially the brown vest. That seems to bring out the Beatle in anyone.

I'd have to admit, part of the allure of Megos were the cloth iniforms. However, I do not think younger me would have been interested in choosing civilian clothes for a an athlete. That would be akin to having a Bruce Wayne Playboy Millionaire collection or perhaps Peter Parker's College Clothes for the Casual Male.

Now if Mego had made different football uniforms I would have been all over that!

BTW, I am looking forward to the Namath wing. Chris' collection is something to behold.

Perhaps they were thinking Joe Namath (the celebrity) was appealing to girls, too and they would ask for a Joe doll and then they would want the outfits as well. Kind of like a non-wuss Ken to go with their Barbies (or Mego 12" girl dolls)? Plus the added benefit would be a boy would want the basic Joe figure dressed in the football outfit so sales to boys and girls???

I get the feeling they were trying to make something with crossover appeal for both boys and girls. Honestly, if I'd been able to get some of those outfits on an Atomic Man I would've been darn excited. Lee Majors was voted best dressed man on television during the height of the SMDM days and he'd have worn that stuff.

There is an unintentional hilarity to the names of these outfits. Eligible Receiver?
