The VW Camper Van. What were Mego thinking?

My partner used to own one of these, you were lucky if you could hit 50 miles per hour in one.

The only saving grace that Joker must have had while trying to escape in one of these is that Bat Man could only match the same speed in his own Camper Van. It is one of the most bizaar uses of a vehicle for a Super hero.
The funny thing is, I could see it working for the Fantastic Four, don't ask me why, maybe its the amount of seats. Somebody should do a custom.

Well, it was just clever recycling from AJ and Dinah more than they wanted VW vans for the Superheroes. I always wondered if the Joker's heater worked...

I'm guessing VW was probably easy for Mego to negotiate with for licensing rights at the time.

At the time, in the early seventies, the VW van was still a popular vehicle as well.

Hey, don't hate all over VW busses. My 78 is in great shape. The Joker should be so lucky as to get a ride from me!

I have to wonder why they used it in The Batman?

Its a good thing Mego didn't create a Pinto for AJ and Dinah Mite.

What doesn't every superhero employ one of those in their arsenal? I mean who can't use a mobile laboratory with a pop up roof?

Are you kidding? My Uncle Charlie had one in the early 70's when I was a small kid and I thought it was great taking trips in it. (He and my Aunt had 5 kids so it suited their needs). I don't know what had happened to it. But I do remember when I got a bit older he went and bought another. Both with the classic red/white color scheme. But before the times of the minivan or the big SUV craze, there was the VW Bus which is right there in my 70's memory with Megos, Banana seat bikes and Evel Kneivel.

They all up and moved to Baytown, Texas in 82 due to the economy so the memory is that much more special.
