I think the reason they made Mr. F over plastic man is the FF were hugely popular during the time. Plus puttng out a Mr. F means they'd have to put out the rest of the FF which in turn meant selling 4 igures compared to 1 plastic man. More money in sells.

I think a lot of the design inaccuracies came down to cost. However, it still doesn't answer why Mego never made a Flash, Green Lantern, Lex Luthor or 7" Robin. Or why they put Catwoman in one of her worst costumes. Hmm, come to think of it, what were they thinking sometimes?

To be honest, those things never bothered me as a kid and they don't now. I had used on occasion those little cocktail umbrellas for the penguin. And in all of my adventures as a kid Batman and Robin never asked the Penguin why his umbrella was pink with little green flowers on it As said above, the "mistakes" or omissions were part of the charm.

    * Why didn't they include an umbrella with Penguin?
    * Why didn't they borrow "Stretch Armstrong" methods and make a stretchable Mr. Fantastic?
    * Why didn't they give the Human Torch a regular FF uniform? (If I can pretend the Invisible Girl is invisible, I can pretend he's on fire)
    * Why didn't they make Hulk BIGGER than the other heroes instead of smaller?
    * If they could make Spiderman's hands red to simulate red gloves, why not do the same for Captain America?

    You forgot a few:

    * Why did Batman and Robin get crappy vinyl over mitts?
    * Why didn't they make Robin shorter than Batman?
    * Why didn't Robin's vest have yellow laces
    * Why didn't Robin's shorts have scales silkscreened on them? (MEGO sikscreened just about everything else!)
*) Why didn't Batman, Robin, and Batgirl get Bat-a-rangs and Bat-Ropes?
    * Why didn't "fat" male characters have working waist articulation?
    * Why did the MEGO female body design suck so badly? (They're built like tall, lanky boys with boobies)
    * Why were the female bodies made the same height as the male bodies? (Women are generally shorter/smaller than men!)
    * Why didn't Superman have an actual belt?
    * Why didn't Superman's boots have the correct "v" cut in the top point.
    * Why was Captain America's shield so crappy?
    * Why didn't Shazam get an accurate cape?
    * Why didn't Shazam get proper boots? (Conan boots in yellow would have been fine!)

The Pengy and Cap questions came down to money or laziness.

True what Clem and Mike said, although an umbrella for Penguin would've made a lot of sense

Because they wanted to release a Human Torch figure, and not a Johnny Storm.

Johnny Storm is more related to a secret identity then a WGSH, imo

Because that wouldn't have been Mego, that is part of the charm of these 8 inch marvels. In the comics do you think the Thing walked around in an Orange rock patterned jumpsuit? Its these little inaccuracies that we fondly remember that make us love them so much now.

Actually now that I think about it, Plastic Man might have been better and easier than Mr. Fantastic. Mr. Fantastic, they would want to have the same look as the other FF, but obviously a stretchable figure would have to have the uniform molded on, instead of using a fabric uniform. Plastic Man looks cartoony enough that the molded-on look would be fine...but maybe not as much for Mr. Fantastic.
