    The Original 1974 Mego Zira Prototype



    As promised, we kick off a week of never before seen shots of the original hand made Mego production prototypes of the Planet of the Apes Characters.
    These original samples have been rumoured to exist for years and now we finally have beautiful full colour shots of the very first Mego Planet of the Apes characters.

    Wow. I can't wait to see more. The attention to detail is amazing. Whilst not acurate it certainly sends out the right message.

            I like this phrase....

            "Thanks to the foresight of a then junior Mego employee we can see the crude yet charming first attempts at the line, 35 years after creation."

            Is it a polite way of saying he nicked them?

                        Thanks for sharing this slice of mego ape history with us.

                        It’s interesting that the gorilla in the ad is called Ursus. But when released was simply Soldier Ape.

                            Do these prototypes still exist today and are in someones collection ?

                            Or were the photo's taken a long time ago and that's all that remains of them ?

                              No, not at all, from what I was told, they were trash and the person asked to have them.
