Why not go for something like this?

Real Megos, a bit worse for wear but in one peice. You'd probably be able "restore" these within your budget using repo parts. Keepin mind you could buy what you needs piecemal if you couldn't afford buy the parts at once. It'd be fun watching them get cleaned up!

Keep in mind that in some cases it costs as much or more to create a reproduction of the figure as it does to buy a decent original on ebay. For example, putting together a repro RC Batman would run you $45 in repro parts. You can't buy a minty original RC for that, but you can buy a really nice original molded cowl batman for that.

As for Marketplace, yeah, people around here know the value, but the people are prices are fair and much more trustworthy than some you might run into on ebay.

The members here might just surprise you...
        "Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn"

In the Southeast Pacific, lies the sunken city of R'Leyh. There lies C'thulhu waits to return to our world with the other Great Old Ones. A hideous creature of enormous size and alien power, it waits for it's time to return patiently. For it has all the time in the world while it waits for the stars.

It is hard to find the best prices on the figures you are looking for - if you are looking for Aquaman inevitably you will find awesome deals on Superman (or some other figure you don't need)
The best deals here get scooped immediately. But MOST things posted in the marketplace by established members are priced fairly and described honestly -and promptly and safely shipped upon payment. So it is pretty safe to buy here.

Ebay you never know who is passing off repro as real and there are a host of other problems. You can get great deals there but it requires a savvy buyer and in my opinion is best only for buying pieces parts lots.

I've got some pretty good deals in marketplace. Not everything is a steal and I don't expect it to be really, but a lot of guys pick up extra figures in lots or at yard sales, etc and sell off their spares at a decent price. Enough to make a profit but not so much as to gouge.

I actually just got a REALLY good deal on a very clean Superman. I am SHOCKED right now.

This place has surprised me both with the responses to this post and to the deal I already got. I am stunned. Not all message boards work like this...

              Thanks guys!

That's what keeps me coming back I've thoroughly enjoyed working on getting my hand-sewing skills going. All I did was look at some of the tutorials in the museum and then I was able to buy a few bare figures for cheap, visit a Jo Ann's Fabrics, and began working on my first custom outfits.

                    Can it be entirely repro?
                    Reminds me of a joke...
There was an antiques dealer driving through rural Virginia. He saw a wizened old man chopping wood with what looked like the oldest axe he had ever seen.
Dealer asks him, "How old is that axe?"
"My great grandfather received at as a boy from George Washington when he was working at Mount Vernon as a stable boy'" he answered
Then he added, "Of course it has had three new handles and two new axe heads replaced."
