    Pre- 1995 computers

I found this site recently that has a pretty sizable list of classic computers. This really takes me back to when computer gaming was much different and everyone you knew had different machines and had heated debate over which was better.

I was wondering what memories the board has of computers they owned (or friends had). I didnt have one but a neighbor nearby had a commodore 64 and I would make any excuse I could to go and play it. It seemed like a really powerful machine at the time (just before I had a chance to see a NES) and I enjoyed the Sega conversions and the classic arcade games "seemed" really close to me. Of course, I was use to systems like Intellivision and the Atari 2600.

Around 1990 I had a chance to see an AMIGA for the first time. I had never seen such a powerful computer, I still wouldnt mind having one to this day. Awesome game machine and STILL could be a very useful machine even now for regular everyday use.

That was a fun site to go through, I remember tons of those computers. The first one I ever used was the Commodore PET when I started high school, and our science teacher had an Apple II that he let us use. The first computer I owned was the Commodore 64, what a great computer (except for it's notoriously crappy disk drive). I had tons of games for it, as we had a pretty active game pirating ring at school (thanks for our computer lab's Commodore 4040 dual disk drive, which made copying games a snap). I wouldn't mind tracking down some of these old computers (great, just what I need, another collecting hobby!)

The first computer I remember having was early, possibly mid-80's IBM version my father's job gave him. Just standard bacl screen, green lettering, but I remember playing some DOS games. I even even had a friend who taught me how to make the text based games.

The first I had was a Timex. I thought it was called a Timex 64, but after viewing that site it must have been called a Sinclair. Great memories on that site.

I remember in elementary the school getting its first batch of Apple II's and educational software. Before we got to class the computers would have to be "warmed up", I would volunteer to help the teacher turn on the computers and help load the software. I may be exaggerating a little but it must have taken 30 minutes for the system to be booted, software loaded, and ready to use.

They used those dreaded monochrome screens to. Still cant look at these for very long without my eyes hurting!

Apple IIe's, Atari 800, 1200xl, Atari ST, Commodore Vic20, 64 and 128. Buddy of mine had the Tandy TRS80, (trash80), loved that thing.

Anybody remember the computer add on for the Colecovision?

There was the Adam and I think another module that allowed synthesized voice. Also an atari 2600 adaptor.
The Adam unfortunately didnt get much support because coleco wanted to do everything "in house".

The Atari ST was one heck of a computer to.

I remember when a friend of mine got an Apple McIntosh back in high school...probably around '85. The graphics were amazing for the time.

I'll never forget playing with a mac for the first time. The OS was absolutely beautiful to use.

There actually was a operating system for the Commodore 64 as well. (not many people know this) of course, the mac's was much better!

The first computer I had was an Apple 2. You can play emulated Apple 2 games here:

                        Thanks for the link.

I'm wondering if anyone ever made an OS for the apple II. It was the longest running computer (counting all the upgrades) at 11 years.

Edit: There was G5/OS. Ive never seen this.

I can't remember which version it was but I found hidden games on one of the Atari computers. Back about 1984 Sears had their big computer displays. They were running all day but if you went late in the afternoon and ran a small program that had it go into a loop, after about 10 minutes it would boot up the hidden games.
