I remember going in to see it at the theater in 1984 completely without any Dune context.

That was my experience as well. Read the book about a year after I saw it. The only movie I've ever seen where I was handed a glossary sheet at the entrance. Not sure who thought it was a good idea having the audience looking up words like Kwisatz Haderach in a dark theater.

Dune: Part 2 is visually stunning, certainly.
Even with a running time of 165 minutes, certain aspects of the story were rushed.
Villeneuve says he's working on the script for a third movie, which would adapt the second book, Dune Messiah.

Watched it last night...I kept nodding off...
