I loved it when it had that funky theme tune.
But when that changed I wasn't that interested anymore.

I also used to love the fact that on the beginning credits
they had someone called Barry...as that's my name...

the Earth wouldnt be such a happy place either. Even if it did go out of orbit and survive, it would take it forever and a day to get anywhere.

I agree about the Eagle that was the big part of my love for the show at the time.

Actually they did show that the earth got trashed. They do end up getting back and find only a small part of the Earth was habitable.

That take forever deal was my one big uugg part of the writing. Where exactly did the solar system get a black hole to propel the moon on its intergalactic journey?

Lo there do I see the line of my people back to the begining.
      Lo they do call me.
They bid me take my place among them.

I LOVED Space:1999 when it first came out. FINALLY ~ A sci-fi show that didn't spend all it's spaceship budget on the premiere episode, then you trek around a planet for the rest of the season.. (Planet of the Apes, Land of the Giants, and Lost in Space most of the time..). Other than Trek, you really had nothing..!

SPACE:1999 premiered locally after the 10pm news on Saturday nights when normally there was only the creepy ‘Shock Theater’ type movies ran, such as ‘The Mummy meets Frankenstein’ or old ‘40s flicks. It was touted more as a sci-fi/horror series, with eerie monsters in the deep, dark reaches of space. It soon became a favorite show to watch among my friends; ‘course, it was very cerebral and yes, slow-paced.. It definitely took a bite out of my interest in comics for years.

I remember getting the Eagle and Enterprise Bridge models, and the Mego Green Arrow that year, but it was the Eagle that took the prize..! It was and is still my favorite ship (next to the old Galactica Vipers..).

Alan Carter soon became my favorite character of the show, more so in the second year. If I was have my pick of all the role models for adulthood, motivating my decision to enter the military, it was Nick Tate.

Yes thankyou,i loved it first time round,we use to play at school with are Stun Gun torches and take turns being commander Koenig

Loved Dinky's version of the Eagle Transporter.

I still liked to watch all the other sci-fi shows and super hero stuff as its all linked to science fiction/fantasy

I loved it as a kid in the Seventies (and many of the episodes terrified me...i.e. Force of Life, Dragon's Domain, Death's other Dominion)...As an adult, I started watching reruns on the Sci-Fi channel and fell in love all over again. I'm rather obsessed with the series now and the first season was/is the best IMHO.

To add more, I loved the cerebral-ness of the Year 1 approach; even if it was scientifically hokey at times, it still made you suspend some belief (hey, the Trek folks made you believe in 'transporters', didn't they.. SAME concept).

As for the 2nd year, I liked a lot of the cosmetic changes, but hated the whole Maya idea and the breezier, silly story concepts. Loved Catherine Schell, but hated the Maya character. Freddy made the series appear more mundane and insipid.

Also the introduction of new, younger adventurers like Tony Anholt and John Hug were cool to watch, but it frankly made Martin Landau seem totally redundant and unnecessary for most stories, hence all the split episodes later in the 2nd year (some leads filming different episodes simultaneously).

The magic was definitely in the first year.

Loved it as a kid. When the DVDs came out I got the first 2 sets, and thought it horrid. never got any more.
