In my "adult nerd" years I've favored Picard's crew over Kirk's overall--- however, I don't think any Trek movie can hold a candle to Undiscovered Country as far as being so engaging in my opinion.

To me, it's almost as if a higher power stepped in to ensure the original crew such a tight sendoff movie when it could have just as easily have been a trainwreck.

      My five favorites:

Star Trek The Motion Picture...it holds the most nostalgia to me (as I was still a teen), it has that 2001: Space Odyssey vibe going for it, and while it might be slow and ponderous to many...it's right up my alley...that's what space exploration/travel should be...methodically slow, lonely, mysterious, dangerous.

The Wrath of Khan...that one just kicked arze all over the place.

The Voyage Home...set in San Francisco, whales, good comedy...lovely fun flick.

First Contact...by FAR...the best STNG movie...pretty intense ship scenario (landing party scenes funny), the Borg (and Queen), humans meeting Vulcans for the first time. What more do you want.

Star Trek...passing the baton to a new cast of young actors, was just what the doctor ordered, refreshing welcomed addition.

The Motion Picture for me...I think it's the closest to the original series in feel.
It has a great sense of mystery...exploring the unknown, and that is what Trek is all about.

STMP directors cut by far the best watched the original at the drive in with my dad, followed by wrath and finish with search in other words I,II then III all watched with my dad so heavy nostalgia as well.
I liKed 4,5,6 just not as much.loved the humour in 4.Not much I liked in 5 and six was just perfect trek.

I also like Superman and burritos. So that's three things.

I liked 3 best because it had a certain tightness no other Star Trek movie ever had.

Can't describe exactly what I mean but it's something I feel.

And, as mentioned above, the whole "stealing the Enterprise" scene is without a doubt the best sequence ever filmed for a Star Trek movie or TV series... The combination of visuals and music is pure genius

IMO Kahn was ok but I never liked the idea him and his geriatric crew (which seem to all be 18 year old New Wavers) ... taking over a Star Ship and on top of that being a serious threat to anyone.... In today's world it would be like Saddam Hussein and his sons' highschool junior class commandeering and taking over a United States Aircraft Carrier

Possibly my favorite Trek sequence ever. For a movie that was undoing a death, it really left you on edge at certain turns, taking chances and making big changes to continuity.

Oh, c'mon -- Khan and his crew took over the Enterprise in "Space Seed" -- and they established Khan and his people are superhuman mentally as well as physically, so that was completely believable.

Answering the intial question, my favorite is Wrath of Khan or Search For Spock, depending on when you ask me.

To summarize, if I may... you are saying:

Khan and a bunch of geezers steal a starship... Totally ridiculous.
Kirk and a bunch of geezers steal a starship... Best. Thing. Ever.

Nice to see III getting some love. I hate that "even numbered ones are the best" nonsense. I'll defend TMP, III, and V to the grave.

I like 'em all. Really fine movies, they are. Having to pick a favorite is like choosing your favorite child, yet one of them grew up to become an astronaut. So, I guess Wrath of Khan it is. But still, they all offer wonderous stories, performances, scores, and cinematic sequences that definitely distinguished them from the television show.
