I like IV and think it was the closest to the original series. I know people generally consider it goofy, but a lot of of my favorite Trek episodes were comedy ones. Like the show it's got a positive moral and message about humanity, and I like that the crew is using science to overcome their problem, rather than just fighting a bad guy. Also, like the show, it feels like the time travel was a cost saving device - which I found endearing last time I watched this series of movies.

I like 2 a lot too, great performances in that one - but for some reason it didn't hold up as well for me.

One thing I like about the classic movies so much is their great scores.

I bet I can name any classic Trek movie and you all could hum the theme on command.

Try this with any Trek movie post Undiscovered Country ?

Nice to see III getting some love. I hate that "even numbered ones are the best" nonsense. I'll defend TMP, III, and V to the grave.

I like 'em all. Really fine movies, they are. Having to pick a favorite is like choosing your favorite child, yet one of them grew up to become an astronaut. So, I guess Wrath of Khan it is. But still, they all offer wonderous stories, performances, scores, and cinematic sequences that definitely distinguished them from the television show.

And, as mentioned above, the whole "stealing the Enterprise" scene is without a doubt the best sequence ever filmed for a Star Trek movie or TV series... The combination of visuals and music is pure genius

IMO Kahn was ok but I never liked the idea him and his geriatric crew (which seem to all be 18 year old New Wavers) ... taking over a Star Ship and on top of that being a serious threat to anyone.... In today's world it would be like Saddam Hussein and his sons' highschool junior class commandeering and taking over a United States Aircraft Carrier

Possibly my favorite Trek sequence ever. For a movie that was undoing a death, it really left you on edge at certain turns, taking chances and making big changes to continuity.

Oh, c'mon -- Khan and his crew took over the Enterprise in "Space Seed" -- and they established Khan and his people are superhuman mentally as well as physically, so that was completely believable.

Answering the intial question, my favorite is Wrath of Khan or Search For Spock, depending on when you ask me.

It has a great sense of mystery...exploring the unknown, and that is what Trek is all about.
