    The Shannara Chronicles

For those that are into fantasy, I believe this show premieres tomorrow at 10:00 p.m. on Mtv. I have never read the Terry Brooks stories but it looks like it's worth a try.

for those who have never read them, the basic idea is that this takes placed thousands of years in our future. after a cataclysmic war destroys everything the elves re-emerged and the Druids started...they are the sorcerers of this series. the books are generational and follow the same families for the most part as I recall, both among elves and humans

Somehow I skipped over this series. The Robert Jordan books took up a good bit of time though.

I cant believe the high production values of some of the cable shows now. Looks as good, if not better, than many feature films.

Me too. The original trilogy of the Sword, Elf Stones, and Wishsong of Shannara. I devoured the series back in the day.

It's been 30 years tho, and I remember very little of them. I think the show doesn't strictly follow the books, so it will be interesting to see what feels familiar.

It was alot to take in since I was unfamiliar with it, but I liked it a good bit. I taped it (yes, i still do that) but it will come on again tonight at 8 for those that missed it.

I think I would be interested in the books now. I will have to track them down.

In the books, do Elves have facial hair?

I really enjoyed the Chosen episode.

Many the characters seem super-young to me now, don't know their book age.

-but, the show was a treat for me.

I loved seeing John Rhys-Davies in it, he was excellent.

Many good things in the show.

They should make an online game for it, of course, World of Warcraft might have used things from the books already.

me too. Those were great. My mom bought me the first one saying, "this looks like something you'd like". She knew I was a Tolkien nut, and I did. Read them for years.

I read the Wheel of Time series as it came out....so it was over a very very long time....what, maybe 20 years?

but in fairness the Shannara books have been getting published since the late 70's and I have enjoyed them all, but the original trilogy and the first quartet that followed were the best

Yea, it was a little but overall I enjoyed it. It's a step up from MTV's usual and I thought it was pretty well produced. I'm sticking with it if all the episodes are close to this quality. I'm ready for the next installment already.

There's nothing wrong with soap opera-ish, as long as it's well written. This was not. Most of the time it was akin to a bad CW show, production values aside.

Even tho there's some tough competition, Will Ohmsford could be the prettiest girl on the show..
