Has Star Wars merchandising gone beyond ridiculous this time?

My wife and I both noticed some truly bizarre merchandise campaigns this time around, like a line of Cover Girl makeup, high end Kay jewelry...even engagement rings.

I've even seen Star Wars coffee creamer...kid's cereal I get, but coffee creamer?

Seems even more overboard and weird than usual this time around.

My On Demand Service has the Falcon on the logo right now, I'm not really sure why....

Being a KISS fan since the 70's, this all seems very normal from a marketing schematic. If they can paste their logo on something to sell, it will be there. Licensing and merchandising has most likely already paid for the majority of this film.

Yes, it's beyond ridiculous. Disney knows how to wring money out of their IP like nobody's business.

We will all be totally sick of Star Wars one day. Who would have thought that would happen?

I think there is more stuff this go round than before. Besides the makeup, I've seen the black lable Campells soup cans, Kraft Mac& Cheese, batteries, candy, tons if clothes...No one can ever accuse Disney of being lax in marketing. I'm surprised Leia isn't included with the Princess line...although Han Solo doesn't fit in well with Prince Charming.
It's a lot like the excess of superhero merchandise. Sometimes I really feel there is too much. I know it's a golden age for comic fans, but I kinda miss the exclusivity our hobby used to have.

Yeah, they have definitely gone a bit overboard with the merchandising this time around. The wife and I did our grocery shopping earlier this morning and we noticed that several of the items on our list were emblazoned with the black Star Wars ribbon, either on the side or across the top...Old El Paso taco shells, Chex Mix and coffee creamer, to name a few.

                  Yes.

Disney uses a cookie cutter approach. They apply the same design or concept to all of their lines. And they penetrate every retail outlet there is with a massive range of product. We were at Five Below yesterday and couldn't believe all the junk. Pity the completists and supercollectors.

I'm good for the soundtrack and art books, but other than that, nah... I just don't need to own it all.

Did you ever in your wildest dreams imagine they could out-do Phantom Menace in terms of sheer volume of product? It's amazing.

                      Disney controls EVERYTHING.

All children born on December 18th will have a Jabba the Hutt shaped birthmark.

There's definitely a Phantom Menace level glut of product. It's overkill. But on the bright side, so far, there is nothing as cringe worthy as the infamous Jar Jar candy where kids had to open Jar Jar's mouth and suck on his tongue.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

I have a conspiracy theory that Disney would like nothing more than to do away with the 501st Legion so they can profit on what those guys have been doing for free or for charity, but that may be for another thread. Wipe them out. All of them. Sort of like dissolving the Senate.
