    This thread is great!

J.J. went overboard with the Star Trek perfume.

I suppose they could still make Tauntaun air fresheners.

I used to say 1990's Star Trek flooded the market, wow!

Some of the new Star Wars stuff is good, but some of it is like hearing a Who song in a car commercial.

It can be heartbreaking having something meaningful to you abused and used for something you don't like.

In addition, something uncool in certain circles is suddenly cool. (because we are now told it's cool and acceptable)

I vividly recall the TPM merchandise avalanche.
And TFA does seem to have even more stuff... and I'll freely admit I'm loving seeing the Star Wars logo everywhere I go.

You know, a new SW movie doesn't come around that often, so I welcome the craziness, it'll only last a short while anyway.
I also enjoy getting some weird cross-over merchandise, it adds color to an otherwise "just figures" collection.
You can pick what you like and ignore the silly ones. Hey, I might even buy the silly ones.

Interesting quotes from Kathleen Kennedy regarding the Star Wars merchandising blitz:

There has been so much Star Wars merchandise hitting the market — does Disney oversee that part of it?

We're the creative entity. We have a franchise management team. We have Lucasfilm employees working within Disney consumer products. We spend a great deal of time sitting with the various divisions inside Disney talking everybody through our plans, showing them our artwork and, eventually, footage, helping them create the style guides, identifying what it is that the various companies that we're in partnership with are going to execute. That's a collaborative effort between Lucasfilm and Disney. … Probably the biggest contribution that Disney has made to the Lucasfilm franchise management was their international component. That was something Lucasfilm hadn't made significant inroads with.

If Disney wants to put characters on a can of Coke, do you have input?

Absolutely. Lucasfilm looks out for Star Wars. What are the values inherent in Star Wars that we want to protect? It's fragile to a certain extent in that it's a single IP. … They're depending on us to keep the franchise alive in a way that isn't a cookie-cutter approach. They want to have a dialogue about how we want to handle consumer products: "At what point could we reach saturation in a way that could have a negative backlash?"

I think while I watched the Flash last night I saw ten different commercials using the Star Wars theme. I see more of this than I do trailers. I'm wondering if they have reduced marketing costs by having the movie advertised through product endorsement instead of paying for air time for the trailers?

If its this crazy now how bad will get for the next movie? That is if all this stuff is successful. I suspect we'll be seeing a lot of Star Wars and The Force Awakens merchandise in stores like Big Lots, 5 Below, Ollie's, Marshall's etc. during 2016.

My wife mentioned to me the absurd amount of star wars tie ins that are being advertised lately. She even mused if there was tampons or ******s with the star wars label on it. I said I haven't seen it yet, but would not be surprised one bit if they do have them

I use to work for TRU and once joked to a co-worker that you could put a dead rat in a box and sell it as long as the box had the Star Wars logo on it.

Let me saw this, I own a great deal od Disney stock so more stuff to sell means more money in my account.

That being said I could not get over what I saw at my grocery store today:

                        star-wars-coffee-creamers.jpg

I am not buy into the influx of Star Wars and I am so glad that my nephew is only 1, it makes it easier. I am really glad Disney has decided to not make Megos.

That's a very good attitude to have about it. SW hasn't had this level of mainstream popularity since the early 80s. Might as well enjoy it while it lasts.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

                              Very true!

It's a worthwhile endeavor to partake in the excitement and celebrate Star Wars!

New Star Wars movies are going to come around pretty often now. Disney is going to make this their new Marvel. I, personally, am fatigued by Marvel movies at this point. I'm not that way with Star Wars yet, and I hope I never am, but with all the spinoffs, I'm afraid it might be around the corner.
