It would be a genius move if the blu-rays would be out in time for Christmas and the new movie.

This has been common knowledge for awhile. I work movie sales and they have already been announced

I believe the theatrical releases are coming and it's been rumored since Disney bought Lucasfilm. But so far I haven't seen any official announcement. The steelbooks and complete saga Blu-Ray box set coming this fall are supposed to be yet another re-release of the previous Blu-Rays in different packaging.

I wonder if some people collect all of the different releases? They must have 30 copies...

I was just figuring out that I've purchased Planet of the Apes on different formats nearly a half dozen times in my life time. Stopping at Blu Ray.

I'm sure plenty of people collect and catalog every single release and package variant. I never went that far. But I have to admit I do have the 2006 theatrical DVD set, 2011 Special Edition Blu Ray,
1995 THX VHS set and 1997 Special Edition VHS set. So that's only four sets. That's not too crazy, lol.

I don't judge. At one time I probably had at least a half dozen versions of Dracula (1931) on VHS and DVD. I think I bought nearly every incremental picture and sound upgrade until it finally got the full restoration on Blu Ray. I only have the Blu Ray now.

                Not quite 30 but. . .

I have been buying the trilogy since the late 80s.

                Currently my collection includes:

                1. original individual VHS release of each film

                2. Collector's Edition Box Set (LB)

                3. "Faces" box set (PS)

                4. Special Edition "Silver" box set (WS)

                5. Special Edition Trilogy DVD box set (WS)

                6. individual DVD release of each film with theatrical bonus disc (WS)

                7. The Complete Saga Blu-ray box set

I missed a few here and there but for the most part, I have a release on every format. I have not yet bought the digital versions and I'm not sure I will unless the price drops significantly.
If I had only spent a tenth of the time studying Physics that I spent learning Star Wars and Baseball trivia, I would have won the Nobel Prize.

That's actually pretty cool. I used to have more VHS versions. But I donated my Pan and Scan sets back when I got the VHS THX widescreen. Kind of miss them sometimes. Great artwork on those boxes.

Just think how big a collection of James Bond movies would be based only on changes in packaging not home media formats.
