That was fun. Interesting that they returned to the original idea they had for Ultraman, which was to make his mouth movable. They've made him kind of alien-like to remove the "costume" aspect of the character. It looks cool. I'll certainly check it out when it's available.
I like that they've looked at what they couldn't do with the character in '66 and worked from there.
Even though it's short, it's head and shoulders above the Kamen Rider reboot movies that had pretty boys playing the riders and the whole thing derails into a rip off of "Ringu".

Agreed. I've always been disappointed that Ultraman never translated to younger generations like other product which looked so much like him such as the Power Rangers and of course Kamen Rider. For me those shows are unwatchable because the marketing was so in-your-face blatant. It's New Kids on the block meets Ultra-man with Ninja Turtle gags. While I would never deem the 1966 Ultraman to be the pinnacle of choreographing a monster fight, it certainly read a little more thoughtful in approach (to me) than these other shows that looked more like something we did as kids in our backyards... Completely spontaneous and without much direction. Ultraman '66 might have been cheesy by today's standards, but it was evident the people doing the work were invested in the concept and wanted to make something interesting for it's day. They weren't mailing in the assignment like these other shows look to be. So I can watch that old series with context and enjoy it.
Wow!! Yeah, that really grabbed the Ultraman kid inside of me who used to watch the show religiously! Definitely has come a long way in effects, but it still captures what made Ultraman Ultraman. I loved the sound of his warning beacon going off in the background at the end.
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.
Wow, that looks fantastic. Unfortunately, I have been disappointed by a lot of Japanese remakes of old properties like Kikaider, Hakaider, Devilman, Casshern. None of them really appealed to me in the way I hoped. I still enjoy watching Power Rangers when I can catch it on tv, though, so still a big kid at heart.
