I've had my fill of fallible heroes. Pretty soon, the next Superman will be using his X-ray vision to see through women's clothes.
"Superman! That woman is falling to her death!!!!"
"Oh yeah, look at the boobs on that one!"

We already have a bunch of fallible characters in SW. Vader, Solo, Calrissian. Can we just keep one true hero?

      Here's your hero then...

What is a hero if untested? How do you know to embrace good, if you never take the opposite path? There has to be some relevance to Luke outside of just "saving the day" or taking a saber for the home team. Luke survived the initial experience. But that also planted the seed, because he sniffed the dark side but never fell. So he's had all of peace time to wonder what that must really be like. That's why he's in exile. He knows the allure is strong. But here's the one aspect about that struggle I haven't heard anyone talk about... Will Anakin's spirit talk to him? That will be an interesting dilemma for the director. Do you risk putting Christian Hayden into the story for the sake of continuity or completely recast the character?

I don't mind him contemplating the lure of the Dark Side. Every hero should look into the abyss.
For a brief moment in Jedi, he almost let his anger take control, but I feel he's a strong enough character to resist.
Don't get me wrong, I don't like "straight as an arrow" heroes ( a lot of them are plain boring), but they don't all have to be Wolverines and Punishers.

I was watching Winter Soldier yesterday, and I couldn't help thinking "Dark Side Luke" when seeing this guy:

I don't buy into all the fan speculation of Luke falling to the dark side. Luke will never turn. He has already looked into that abyss and beat it. I see Luke taking on the Obi Wan role in the new trilogy.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

I completely see your point. I think if we get that allure to the dark side, that will make me happy. It can only build upon his legacy as one of the great sci-fi heroes of all time. I did have one buddy throw out a fascinating idea. He feels everything he has seen and read has been a deliberate distraction to get people to actually believe Luke might fall. He suggests that what people are overlooking is the curve ball in this entire story arch... The technology of cloning. What if Luke was cloned at an early age? What if they knew of his potential greatness and tried to duplicate him and his double has been hidden all this time? Wouldn't that be a twist and a half?

The cloning idea is an interesting one. You might even see a Good Luke vs Evil Luke confrontation.
I always thought that The Emperor must have cloned himself at some point, the tech was there anyway. He could have made himself immortal. And why not also clone Skywalker DNA, right? It is the most powerful Jedi DNA available. This could then lead to an Evil Luke, siding with the Emperor.

It would also be interesting to see how Luke reacts should Han Solo actually be killed in Ep7. Would he lash out with The Force at the enemy who killed Han?

There already was an evil clone Luke in the Expanded Universe novel The Last Command by Timothy Zahn. Same with a clone Emperor in the Dark Empire comics. I don't see them retreading that.

I didn't read much of the books or comics, the whole "expanded universe" really. Never liked the whole way these were handled.
I don't feel the movies (which are the main source) should dismiss some good ideas because the books or comics already used a certain concept. If this were the case, Marvel movies would have little original material left to work with, as everything has been done and said in the comics already.
I think the Clone Emperor would make a lot of sense in the new movies.
