    Recommended Sword & Sorcery Fantasy?

    Hi folks,

I am hankerin' to dive into a new Fantasy fiction series, of the Sword & Sorcery variety.

I have checked out some recommendations on a few blogs, and Glen Cook's name keeps coming up.

Anyone here familiar with Cook, or have other recommended authors?

I haven't had a chance to read any but I've heard the Dungeons and Dragons Sundering series is very good.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Fritz Leiber's Fafhrd & the Gray Mouser series, usually found under the "Swords Against" titles or sometimes "Lankmahr" ( the main city of the books). If you haven't read them, this is a top notch series.

Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series is amazing. it's just incredibly long, I think 15 books and most of them are door stoppers. but it is a really well written and rich story.

I know they are not exactly "Sword & Scorcery" Fantasy, but I must recommend The Song of Ice and Fire books by George R R Martin. The show is great, but the books! Oh, how I love them...

My wife recently read the Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss and they sound like a good read.

yes, Martin's series is really good, although I found book 4 extremely slow and boring. book 5 picked it up again and I am looking forward to book 6.
              .
not quite sword and sorcery but you could check out Stephen Kings Dark tower series. it blends scifi, fantasy, westerns and horror with a mix of time travel. really great read

I agree heartily. I started reading those as a teenager. My mom got me the first one because she thought it was something I would like. I was always on the lookout for the next Lord of the Rings. (Which is the best in my opinion). I would say if you haven't read LOTR go for that first. The wheel of Time series is just great though, you'll get into it.
Tolkien is and will always be my favorite.

I read these many years ago and really enjoyed them. The Dragonlance Chronicles.

This is book 1 of the series.

Look into some of the stuff written by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. They are the writers of the two original Dragonlance novels (Chronicles and Legends, which are excellent), and have written many other fantasy novels outside the property. They also write in a style that is easy to read and exciting. I highly recommend them. http://www.fictiondb.com/author/marg...kman~38408.htm

When I was a teenager devouring fantasy books, I really loved the first two Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever, by Stephen R. Donaldson.

The Book of Swords series by Fred Saberhagen also comes to mind.
