    Snowpiercer

Wow, just watched this on Netflix, what an awesome movie!

The Earth's remaining inhabitants are confined to a single train circling the globe as revolution brews among the class-divided cars.

It's a South Korean production, but stars mostly Western actors, Chris Evans, Ed Harris, Tilda Swilton, and John Hurt.

Based on a French graphic novel.

It's about the entire planet on a global ice age, the only surviving humans are riding on this perpetual motion running super train that circles the globe. It's a class divided train, as different train cars have different segments of population, the very poor, military, the affluent, and so on...the movie basically focuses on a revolt by the poor, and their attempt to go train car to train car...trying to reach the leader and creator of the train, and their ultimate goal is to take charge of the perpetual motion engine.

What an original and fascinating story...warning...extremely violent...definitely not for kids.

I rated it five out of five stars...what a friggin awesome movie.

Yeah... I saw this in a little independent theatre a while back. It was a really good sci-Fi movie. It was refreshing to see a movie that had only the goal of being a great self-contained story. No aspirations of being a franchise or a CGI summer blockbuster. Anybody who loves a good concept and story would enjoy it for sure.

The plot sounds like Hunger Games on a train, with ice.

You mean Hunger Games copied Snowpiercer.

The Hunger Games is a 2008 science fiction novel by the American writer Suzanne Collins.

Le Transperceneige is a science fiction post-apocalyptic French graphic novel created by Jacques Lob and Jean-Marc Rochette and published by Casterman. The graphic novel was first published in 1982 under the title Le Transperceneige (Snowpiercer), later retitled The Escape.

Snowpiercer craps all over lame arse Hunger Games.

unfortunately, most people won't look to the source material for which came first and think exactly like spacecaps does. Same would happen if Warner did a Books of Magic movie or tv show. everyone would cry Harry Potter rip off.

              Exactly.

Anyone remember that infamous online fracas where this teen girl criticized the Wolfman movie, saying the title character was a ripoff of the Twilight movie werewolves?

Anyway, Snowpiercer has an amazing 95% fresh rating at Rotten Tomatoes from critics, although it drops to the 73% range from regular audiences...

Heh, the Hunger Games borrows wholesale from Battle Royale and a number of of other distopian films before it.

Yup, I was gonna mention Battle Royale as well...a movie that's a trillion times better than Hunger Games too.

Hunger Games was written in 2008, yeah, what an original story, lol.

That's what I mean about Snowpiercer being a great self-contained movie with no aspirations of being a franchise. I don't feel much anxiety in the Hunger Games movies ( or any other franchise movie) for the character's futures. No star, no sequel. Snowpiercer tells its story and it's done.

Man, I wanted to like this movie, but came away feeling cold (pun may or may not be intended). Just didn't work for me as a concept, not sure why. When I first read about it I figured it'd be right in my wheelhouse. I still can't really put my finger on why I didn't like it.

I know why you didn't like it...because Chris Evans didn't turn into Captain America, he wasn't righteous, he ate human limbs after all, that's why, lol.

                              Same here.
To me, the odd mix of serious and funny didn't sit well. One moment it's a slaughter, then Tilda Swinton is doing her weird OTT comedy routine, then the lead tells us he used to eat a baby or two.
The social commentary (as they move through the different sections) is often a bit too "in your face" as well. They didn't have to spell it out that much.
I like the concept, but I feel it needed a stronger director and a more balanced script.

Still, a decent effort, and I think I need to watch it again to give it a chance to grow on me.
