Anna Friel cast in Wil Ferrel's Land of the Lost

BTW: The movie has two strikes against it already:

A) I'm guessing that because Ferrel is in it, it will supposedly be a "comedy" (which, I find hard to believe, because I do NOT think Ferrel is funny. He seems to be the same guy in every movie. Basically, an idiot.)

and

B) It will suck big time because it has Wil Ferrel in it. At times, I'd be hard pressed to say whom I can't stand the sight of more: Wil Ferrel or Jack Black.

BTW: I'm still ****ed at whoever cast Jack Black in the 2005 KING KONG. Peter Jackson should have told him to beat it (literally and figuratively) and had him banned from the set... Everyone else in that movie was at least good, but Jack Black is a "black mark" in an otherwise great film.

Right on I despise Ferrell maybe I'm too old but I find him less amusing than Jim Carey (who I also don't like). land of the lost was a real fun idea when I was a kid but we have had enough CG dino movies for a while.

I like Ferrell alot in his zany comedies. Talldega Nights and Anchorman are freaking hilarious. But Land of the Lost...? I can understand if they want to make a satire of it -- the show's pretty goofy -- but just like with Bewitched, I think it's a mistake to try and turn this property into a zany comedy filled with Ferrel's idiotic antics.

I was just reading an article about Will Ferrell this weekend and how his movies suck.

Regardless of how bad the movies are, they seem to make money...a lot of money.

Will Ferrell was absolutely hilarious on SNL and "Elf" is now a classic Christmas movie. He lost me with Talledega Nights, I didn't even bother watching the skating movie or his latest ones. I hope he can bring some of the magic back.

Didn't see Talledega Nights, since I have zero interest in Nascar. Blades of Glory was pretty dang good tho. Don't really get the complaints about this movie leaning towards comedy, the source material can't be taken all that seriously. And don't forget Ferrell played Marshall Willandpenny in Jay and Silent Bob.

I think the problem is that Land of the Lost; like most good sci-fi and fantasy has at it's heart a touch of silliness. Adding to this is the state of 1970's tv special effects technology. So there's a tendency to.... I dunno, "dismiss" isn't the right word but I can't think of another.... this sort of thing as naught but fluff and kids entertainment. So, if you plan on making a version for a wider and NOT entirely 8 year old market there's a tendency to comedy it up so as to make it palatable. (And I have no doubt that the target market ISN'T a kids one: you don't remake a 30 year old show 'cos you think kids will be excited about the name....)

But you can take a show like Land of the Lost and do it pretty much any way you want. Comedy, action.... you could even turn it into a horror movie if you wanted; and not really deviate from the main idea. It depends on which aspect of the original you want to play up. Family runs from dinos = action. Family runs from dinos assisted by hyjinx-laden sasquateches = comedy. Family runs from dinos and doesn't quite make it = horror.

First, there is comedy. And I hope the movie tries to capture Sid and Marty krofts original magic.



Then there is Will Ferrel. What we are saying is that we don't think his particular brand of "comedy" is what this movie needs.

Well, you guys already know how I feel about remakes, and I wasn't even all that crazy about the 90s version. I don't think Will Ferrell was good casting and this movie is just gonna suck! I wonder what Wesley Eure, Kathy Coleman and Spencer Milligan feel about this?

I think Will Ferrell is hilarious and LAND OF THE LOST seems like just as good a scenario as
any for the guy to try to get laughs in. I'm looking forward to this one more than any
other Ferrell movie yet--altho I don't expect it to be the best---that'd be a longshot bet.

Searching the web I found these indications it won't be "our" Land of the Lost. In this picture I guess that's Ferrells Rick Marshall look. Too bad, he could'a did a good job as a serious and heroic Rick Marshall instead of a bumbling boob:

Land of the Lost, the campy 1970s TV series from Sid and Marty Krofft, is getting the pre-strike treatment from Universal Pictures. With Will Ferrell aboard to star and Brad Silberling (Lemony Snicket) directing, the live-action movie has been fast-tracked to begin filming in March. Script comes from Dennis McNicholas (The Ladies Man) and Ferrell's production partner, Chris Henchy (Entourage).

Ferrell will play a disgraced paleontologist who, with his assistant and tour guide, find themselves in a world inhabited by dinosaurs, monkey-people and of course, the evil Sleestaks. Now we just need to find out who's playing Cha-Ka.

Danny R. McBride Travels to the Land of the Lost

It seems that Will Ferrell is getting some company in the Land of the Lost.

According to IGN, Danny R. McBride has signed on to the Brad Silberling-helmed film. He's set to play the role of Will Marshall, next to Ferrell's Park Ranger Rick Marshall character.

McBride was recently seen in The Heartbreak Kid and Hot Rod and will be seen in the upcoming comedies Drillbit Taylor, The Pineapple Express and Tropic Thunder.

The film is slated for a July 17, 2009 release, and is based off the 1974-1977 television series

Anna Friel to Star in Land of the Lost

Anna Friel has just signed on to star with Will Ferrell in the new light-hearted comedy from Universal Pictures Land of the Lost. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Universal's Peter Cramer and Eric Baiers are overseeing the project with Brad Silberling directing.

Friel will play the love interest of Ferrell, a disgraced paleontologist who finds himself in a strange prehistoric world. Sid and Marty Krofft will produce the film with Jimmy Miller, Julie Wixson-Darmody is executive producer.

Land of the Lost is scheduled to begin principal photography next month.

"Light-hearted comedy" sounds about right. As long as it's not a zany screwball farce like most of Ferrel's movies.

I'm still waiting to hear news about Holly -- is she in or out?

It appears that if it was up to some of you, the movie would look, sound, and plot
just like the original TV show.

The truth is that the original TV show---was made in the 70s---with comedy/drama
sensibilities that wouldn't sell in today's market....simply because the audience's
comedy and drama sensibilities have evolved over 30 years. (Yes, and so have hair styles)

Why do you think that most of today's movies based on old TV franchises are
parodies/satires--- its because they CAN'T be translated onto screen and have at least a
fighting chance of not getting totally negged by the public and critics any other way.

As for the option of just letting the old series stand on their own and NOT remaking them
---I just don't get that mentality.

If a movie studio cashes in on an old franchise by using a familiar name/storyline
AND the immovable oldtime fans who are naysayers of remakes still have
their cherished old show on tape or DVD ------then BOTH entities are winners.

PLUS...the crotchedy oldtiimers get a resurgance in their classic TV shows' popularity to
boot....win/win/win
