I know the apprehension with JJ's shake-cam stuff. I have some reservations myself. Even being a fan of his work, some of his shots could be tighter and tell a little better story with more clarity. However, I am enthused by having someone who actually grew up with the original trilogy. With Empire, Kirshner only had a couple of years to develop and direct so he couldn't have really been a fan of the source material. Fast forward to today and you've got 40 years of momentum and 2 extra generations of fans. I'm sure he's been thinking about making a Star Wars film since his teens, as have we all. He won't let us down. There would be no place safe on planet Earth if he does. -
^You're right about one thing...Empire is a beautiful film to look at. It's so rich and polished...no wonder it's the film Lucas did the least tinkering with. You can't improve perfection.Leave a comment:

So sensibly put. I really am doing my best to just relax and take it as it comes. Is it okay if I like the ideas but have trouble with part of the execution? I would love to be full on-board, but I think JJ Abrahms makes ugly looking films. Look at this comparison I put together, and you'll see what I mean.I know there's no pleasing everyone, but I cannot understand the vitriol I've seen regarding 63 seconds of footage. Until three years ago the was ZERO chance of ever seeing the big three work together and less of a chance of getting a new Star Wars film with them. Just sit back and enjoy this.

I find the coloring and blurriness of the modern image to be just... well... depressing. It's a modern choice, certainly. But I prefer the natural color palette and clarity of the old films. Not to mention the shaky-cam.Leave a comment:

What an awesome video! Love that!!The overall internet reaction to this makes me think of this rant.
Ech, my twitter feed got really icky and entitled yesterday, if you began your comments with "Sorry but" I unfollowed you.
Super jaded with SW here, I have lived with the clone wars running 24/7 for the last 6 years whether I liked it or not (not!).
I got a little emotional when I saw the Falcon, it was a surprising reaction, that made me happy.Leave a comment:

it left me wanting more as well. I don't understand the nerd rage Star Wars fans in particular always exhibit. it's a ridiculous form of entitlement I think. so, to those type people, in the immortal words of William Shatner, "Get a life!"Leave a comment:

It got me excited for Star Wars again, so I think the trailer did it's job. As for all the rage and vitriol, if you've ever visited the Rebelscum forums, you know that a good percentage of SW fans are certifiable nutjobs.Last edited by enyawd72; Nov 30, '14, 8:45 AM.Leave a comment:

So far we:
1. Know zero to nothing about the actual plot/synopsis outside of some wild fan theories. Cool.
2. Have seen updated stormtroopers, so we know the empire, in some capacity still exists. Cool.
3. Witnessed a new kind of lightsaber/lightsword that looks awesome if a bit impraictical. Cool.
4. might be back on Luke's homeworld, old refuge for Obi-Wan and home of Mos Eisley(where Han probably comes into play). Cool.
5. One of the best spaceships ever created in X-wings updated and skimming over water. Cool.
6. A true original trilogy fanboy directing this. JJ has his downside with camera work, but there is no chance he fails here. None. COol

Well said Axel. It left me wanting more. (Although they could have put out grainy footage of an alleged Wookie and some scat and left me hanging, I am an easy mark.) Star Wars Rebels and Clone Wars are all the rage at my house right now.Leave a comment:
