Decent episode. The writer really used a lot of inventive and clever ideas to make it all interesting (the way the 2D creatures functioned), and some really funny stuff with the Tardis.
When he tries to get away from the train track, I had an Evil Dead 2 flashback!

I want a T-Shirt with a miniature Tardis on it, and a big hand sticking out of it, flipping the bird...

Every episode seems like they are auditioning someone for a new companion. Clara is the new Doctor

True, the auditions are getting pretty tedious.
And the main characteristic seems to be "a black person".
Which is fine, but it seems forced.

Needs to be Chinese assistant, not sure they have ever had one?

Well there was the character of Chang Lee in the TV-movie, who was Asian-American, and some count him as a companion, but he never travelled with the Doctor.

              It's long overdue.
And they have one that would be just perfect. They wouldn't have to look far....

Would love to see Clem as a new companion.

As a twist it would be cool to have him from Chinese antiquity -- Besides being something different it would allow Clem to keep his hair and beard

Doctor Who hasn't had past history companions since ... Jamie ?

Would love to play the Mongolian Warlord again Mikey, that was fun and I could see the comedy situations he could create interacting with the 21st Century, a bit like Thor did in his first movie.

Basically, yes--Victoria came in just after Jamie but left before he did. There might be a companion in the Big Finish audios, but given that the last "historical" serial (other than "Black Orchid") was "The Highlanders" with Troughton, the time the Doctor dealt with "pure" history is really relegated to the early years of the show. I suppose there's an in-show explanation possible, to say retroactively that the Doctor was "hiding" from the Time Lords in Earth history...

He seems like he'd be really cool

Honestly, I really miss a male companion, to break up the whole "I'm in love with the Doctor" thing.
My favorite team-up is still Troughton and Hines (with Baker and Sladen a close second, I admit).
And yes, a black or asian companion would be great, maybe one from a historical period.
I always felt Jamie was the greatest companion, because he was totally out of his comfort zone, knew nothing about space, and still he became a true hero, utterly dedicated to the Doctor.

I found Matt liked to keep himself to himself, Peter is far more approachable, more of a people's person.

Ironic, isn't it, their Doctors are just the reverse!

Thanks for the inside info Clem,

                              That's a pretty big surprise.

                              Reminds me of Colin Baker,

In real life he was the nicest celeb I ever met but onscreen his Doctor was mostly a d_ck

I met Colin last April, and to be honest, he wasn't in a great mood.
He was very short, to the point. It was "pay me, here's your autograph".
I felt like Peri, but without the boobs...
