Is Capaldi's Doctor the Valeyard? What say you?

Strictly hypothetical speaking here. I have no access to any more spoilers than anyone and I usually try and avoid them. But there's been months of fanboy discussion about this and, as the premiere is nearly upon us, I thought I'd see what you all thought.

Personally I hope not. Much like the good Doc saying he was half human on this mother's side in the TV movie, I hope the Valeyard is best remembered as a forgotten part of Who. I honestly can't imagine there are many people with much love for the character which, to me at least, never really made any sense. Bury him in the past I say.

It certainly won't stop me from watching if Capaldi is in some way associated with the Valeyard because The Moff might actually be able to make the character matter. And that would be something to see. Personally I hope they let Capaldi make his own mark in his own way.

I don't think we're going to get much by the way of the Valeyard past that tiny reference made last year.

Moffat is a "look forward" type for the most part and frankly, while we met get some old baddies return I can't see the Valeyard be one of them. For one thing, he'd confuse the new audience and another, he's reflective of a low point in the series history. I'm still not certain as to what he is!

If it was me writing the show I would have Capaldi's Doctor as a result of the Valeyard.

Meaning, since all the Doctor's normal regenerations were done (after Smith) perhaps the Valeyard is the result of a botched new regeneration cycle given to the Doctor threw the pocket universe.

Maybe Capaldi will be kinda like Captain Kirk when he was split into good and bad (or something like that)

I thought of that when I heard him say, "am I a good man" on a commercial

I think a lot of people thought hat exact same thing Mike. I've seen it mentioned as one piece of "evidence" supporting the theory. I agree with you Brian with Moffat looking forward, but then we get things like the Great Intelligence returning. While cool to have an old baddy back, were people really voting to bring back the Great Intelligence?

I have also read that somehow Moffat is tying into something from RTD to explain Capaldi's other appearances in the Who universe. Maybe it's just a throwaway line, but it could suggest something "bigger" at play.

Not to be Captain Spoiler pants but the Doctor can't remember the reason he chose his new, older face.

Hence forth you will now be referred to as Captain Spoiler Pants. An appropriate costume is forthcoming.

              "chose" ?

Doc hasn't chosen a face since Troughton --- and even he couldn't decide and was given one by the Timelords

Weird considering Eccleston said you never know what you're going to get

              But then theres Romana

              I'm sooooooooooo confuuuuused

It is as long as they're so-so consistent and give a decent reason i'm willing to accept a few burps between the Classic Series and the New one without getting bent out of shape

The original series contradicts itself multiple times.

Remember that dude who posted here that would have tantrums saying the shows were not connected in any way?

No it was the other guy, I knew the one you were talking about, he was OK.

This guy was rude that he got kicked off a bunch of forums and had to start his own. He has like, two members.

Isn't that about half of the history of the internet?

I won't be a 100% satisfied Who fan until we get an episode with Susan back. I doubt it happens at this point, I thought we would see her in some way during the 50th anniversary, and in reality I'm ok with being a 95% satisfied Who fan.

                            Yep, you're right

I put my thinking cap on and came up with MonkeeTennis (one of the guys) .... the other had the Roman Coliseum as an avatar.

Don't think the nasty guy was either

Yep, also guys that desperately try to use the audio novels as canon

The audio novels are great but I can't think of them as proper Who canon

Mostly because I don't listen to them
