    Star Wars turns 37 today.

May 25th 1977 Star Wars hit the theaters.

The original SW trailer narrated by Malachi Throne.

You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Great trailer. Crazy that there is so little Ford in it.

Mostly robots, space ships, evil dude in scary black mask, squid monster and a hot young chick... I think they knew their target audience!

And, Happy Birthday to all of us... it's a cultural phenomenon that we almost all own at this point!

Double dose of nostalgia with that wonderful poster. Those old Kenner figures still make me smile.

I was so obssesed with SW I had the entire audio of the movie that apparently I taped off of a radio broadcast. I'd listen to it and imagine the film visually. I also had that little blue movie camera thing you looked into and cranked the film reel inside. I can't remember what that was called. I won a sci-fi trivia contest, and it's because I had that tape. The question, which nobody knew and nobody thought I'd know, was the number of the trash compactor they were in for threepio to shut down.

It's strange to see Lucas go from genius to doofus in that timespan.
I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.

If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.

Seeing this makes me feel young and old at the same time.
I rememember watching the trailer in a movie theater and having to wait so long. In those days, it tooks six months for an American film to get to Europe. So I had read the articles in Famous Monsters, the rave reviews, and had to wait until December for it to get here. When it did, I went every week.

It's interesting that the film itself was still in post production at the time of the teaser trailer's release in late 1976 due to the production be so far behind schedule. 20th Century Fox nearly scrapped the movie, but Alan Ladd Jr. came to the rescue.

First saw Star Wars during the summer of '77, and it totally blew my young mind. It's still my all time favourite movie, and always will be.

I had that toy too. Something broke with the mechanism, so I remember removing the film, which was just like Super8 film. So I threaded the film in my Dad's Super8 projector and voila! It was Star Wars on the big screen… er, well on a bed sheet at least.

I still have the bulk of childhood stuff including the "The Story of Star Wars" book and cassette tape. The big theater in my area was one of the opening theaters. I was only six but the impact..wow. I would go on to see every live action SW film in that theater. When "Star Wars" came out in was THE theater in the area and a triplex,by the time of "Revenge of the Sith" is was an "outdated" Tenplex and two years away from being closed to make way for "better" theater attached to shopping mall in the area.
