The 2004 set didn't have the theatrical editions.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

The 2003 one isn't. But the 2008 one is.

Still have several editions of the unaltered trilogy on VHS (including the first time it was issued in widescreen format), and also the old '93 LaserDiscs, even though I don't own a LaserDisc player.

It's true that those DVDs that were issued as "bonus" material a while back were just non-anamorphic transfers sourced from the '93 LaserDisc versions, but it was still cool to have the unaltered movies in that format.

I honestly don't foresee a time when the prequels will ever be relegated to non-canon status. Love 'em or hate 'em, they'll always be official SW canon.

Generally, I've always disliked the majority of the Expanded Universe. It's essentially just glorified fan-fic.
When it was announced recently that the EU was pretty much being rebooted, it was the best news I'd heard in a long while.

I still have the bootleg DVD copies I bought from a guy in Poland when DVDs just got started.
I'm never getting rid of them, it kind of felt like an act of defiance towards Lucas to have these, and they can stay.
It's a 6 DVD box set with the OT, all toy commercials from TV, the Holiday Special, and all the missing bits like Luke and his friends, Biggs, Han and his girl in the Cantina, etc. And the covers are beautifully made.
At the time, it cost me $70, but money well spent...

I remember getting the old "Behind the Magic" CD-ROM when it first came out. That was the first time the Biggs & Luke scenes had ever been released officially. Still love those discs.

And I bought the Blu-ray box set pretty much exclusively for the OT deleted scenes.

I haven't watched the '04 set on my Blu Ray yet...but if the upconversion works the way they say it should, wouldn't that be good enough for the Star Wars fan? I've heard horror stories of how trying to bump stuff up to Blu Ray via re-mastering have in some cases led to inferior results. IMHO they should just leave it alone and have the fan that wants close to Blu Ray quality go out and find that DVD set or the Laserdisc sets and convert them to DVD.
as far as the films the versions released in the "single film" editions from 2006 with the enhanced and standard version yes they were taken from the definitive collection laserdisc analog masters. I still have my LD player and the definitive collection made a copy of mine to dvd simply for the convenience of not having to get up every 23 minutes to flip or change LD's (Curse you CAV)

Same here, although, sadly I hardly ever put in the Blu Rays and watch the deleted scenes because of the miserable, clunky navigation on the menus. That and the horrible orange frame around much of the content pretty much made it a fail.

Then Lucas must be a liar. He stated on the original Clone Wars DVD and the ROTS DVD that it was.

He also said Greedo shot first and we all know that isn't true.

SW Canon is the six movies, 2008 Clone Wars series, the upcoming Rebels series and the new movies.

Yeah my beef with him is don't say something is legit and then turn around and say it isn't.

Lucas has always made it up in the moment. He acts like he always had a grand plan, but that's just to make himself more awesome in his own eyes. He has contradicted himself in interviews over the years so often it's not even funny.

The comics with the DVDs was the Walmart exclusive. The DVDs were available without the comics at other retailers. Got my set at Target.
