Ain't it cool is claiming the working subtitle of SW7 is The Ancient Fear. Not terrible, if true, but I'd take it with a huge grain of salt.

Not exactly my idea of a great title. Sounds like a standard Doctor Who title.

If true, I like it. It fits in well with the other 6 titles.

And it kind of has a nice resonance with "A New Hope".

For someone who doesn't want a main character to be killed off, you're pretty ruthless about the droids...

Yeah, that's true.

R2D2 was the constant element of 6 episodes and 2 versions of clone wars. C3PO too. Lucas said the droids were unlucky.

I don't know if Artoo avoided the TRotS mind wipe, but I kind of think he did, so R2D2 would be the character to know the whole story, if Ep. IX is the last Skywalker/Solo story, R2D2 might be destroyed so that there just isn't a record of events of what the main characters do during their retirement. R2D2 is no more, the main biological characters live on, we just never know any more of their stories.

I want to know how they lived, not how they died.

I still don't know if the hardcore element of a villain can be represented by a hero kill.

Maybe if the baddie kills Luke, but even then it only shows hatred is more powerful. -but what happened to Yoda's teaching and wisdom. Darth Vader even had a hard time with old Ben, Vader having machine enhanced suit, and Obi-Wan sacrificed himself.

That is an example of a strong Jedi.

To represent a Jedi weakness, about six organized Clone Troopers can defeat a Jedi.

So, killing Luke is easy, not something that shows power, the real power is the idea and ideal of living as part of The Light Side of The Force.

Killing Han is easy too, the Empire could have killed him in Cloud City or inside Jabba's Palace at any time. Boba Fett, later on in ESB could have ejected Han in Carbonite in space, then used it as target practice with the Slave 1's laser cannons.

Han is simply not that important to his enemies.
Fett just wanted the bounty, and Han was a joke to Jabba.
Vader wanted Luke. Palpatine might have killed Luke, but Vader talked him out of it knowing The Emperor always wanted more power.

What really would have helped The Emperor would have been to destroy more Rebel spaceships, rather than make a statement with the genocide of Alderaan's people (which asks of the good left in Vader, he went with it instead of killing Grand Moff Tarkin, what good?/redemption how?) and the attempted destruction of Yavin along with it's hidden Rebel Base.

Killing individuals just don't add up, they are only part of a larger ride and historical event in one galaxy, far, far away.

I don't want to welcome back beloved characters only to see them die. Kirk's death in Generations didn't make McDowall's villain more memorable.

Lucas has spent so many generations bathing audiences in this world of invincible heroes, it's hard to know what kind of effect killing Han Solo would have on rebuilding the franchise. From a story structure perspective , it sounds like killing such an iconic character would happen only to define the ruthlessness of whoever the new villain will be. After all, whoever comes after Darth Vader has to make a pretty potent statement to make his own impact.

Now in Episode IX, they might knock off R2D2.

They might throw us by having Andy Serkis play a non digital character, or at least just be in creature make-up. He was in a Michael Caine movie.

Movies are so fast pace now, and there are too many characters in the story to be allowed the change to kill off one of the big three characters in the first film.

There is no reason to kill Han off, and Ford should finally get that silly idea out of his head.

No matter how they would kill Han, the result will be the same as killing Captain Kirk just to have fans focus on the new characters, the next generation.

No reason is a good one. I feel Lucas made/designed those characters to never be killed. It's not the plot or point of the movies. "Never tell me the odds."

Killing Han now would be so weak. Even if he dies saving a main character, delivering secret plans, saving the galaxy, saving the Falcon or having something terrible like a revenge killing by Greedo's son, or killed by someone that didn't know Jabba was dead. (not even if Boba Fett came back and killed Han, it will be so bad)

Now in Episode IX, they might knock off R2D2.

I don't think we need a Luke ghost either, let the living train the Jedi, not everything needs to repeat. We have seen the prequel take actions and words out of context.

This isn't Game of Thrones where we need to witness the killing of every character.

Admiral Ackbar could be the new chancellor or something.

C3PO will probably be torn apart once during Episode VII, and I fully expect a fast sliding vertical blast door to open suddenly revealing Chewy growling who immediately beats down on a new bad guy, or an Imperial who never surrendered.

Honestly, I was amazed he signed on at all. They must have dangled a whole pile of credits in front of his nose...

They wouldn't waste Han on something like getting stabbed in the back. They'd let him go out heroically.
