Yeah, you can take it as part of your personal canon of STAR WARS events and characters, or you can dismiss it as not belonging. I am a firm believer and defender of the internal consistency of the six live-action films (despite many opinions to the contrary!), but once you introduce novels and comics and cartoon shows into the mix, all written and conceived by people other than Mr. Lucas, all bets are off. I will see the movie, I will be entertained, and I probably won't take it as "seriously" as I take the original films and the prequels (in that order).
