Love it. Simple, clean, stylish, evokes Pertwee as an action hero Doctor (Capaldi's body language looks like he's ready for anything, and ready to lay the smackdown if necessary). Really hope he sticks around for more that a couple of seasons, maybe go after Tom Baker's record?

"It's sad that governments are chiefed by the double tongues. There is iron in your words of death for all Comanche to see, and so there is iron in your words of life. No signed paper can hold the iron. It must come from men. The words of Ten Bears carries the same iron of life and death. It is good that warriors such as we meet in the struggle of life... or death. It shall be life." -
Those comparison shots leave no doubt that they are deliberately trying to evoke Pertwee. And that's a good thing. The show could use a more grounded, serious tone.Comment

I like the look, it's a little "off". While I don't want to go back to the 6th Doctor's test pattern coat the new Doctor's have all looked TO normal. There should be something about him, if you saw him walking down the street, that would make you look at him and think "odd".
Agreed and also maybe we can lose the "every girl companion want to shag him" he's the Doctor not James Bond. I'd also like to see less Earth centered/connected stories, MORE BUG EYED MONSTERS and alien worlds.Last edited by Mego Magyar; Jan 29, '14, 8:20 AM.Comment

Yeah, he'll be good in the role.
Plus he could always double as Race B. when he visits the Johnny Quest universe.Comment

To tell you the truth, I could go for a season stuck on Earth operating out of UNIT again. Even ( dare I say it?) a full season with NO Daleks or Cybermen for once. To me they're getting overused. The Doctor has defeated both at least once or twice a year since the series restarted. Give them a rest & bring back some other old baddies for a try, Terraleptils or yeti or the Rani.
I found the new UNIT fascinating, I would like more please. And a new Bessie, maybe a yellow Ferrari this time... No! A yellow DeLorean would be a neat homage to time travel!Comment

Race B.? Nah, he's a little too old for it. Plus, he's not bulky enough. He'd need a build like Chris Hemsworth to be Race Bannon.
And a toned down version of Pertwee is fine. At least he doesn't wear that frilly shirt or the silly cape.
And the most unusual thing about him will be the youth of his Companion. Most people will probably think he's her sugar daddy or something.JediJaidaComment

The Doctor's going on a world tour to promote the return of the show in August.
Peter Capaldi is to circle the Earth without the aid of a Tardis as he and TV co-star Jenna Coleman go on a world tour to promote Doctor Who.
They are to visit five continents in the space of 12 days, calling in at seven cities, ahead of the launch of the new series, Capaldi's first as The Doctor.
The pair will be accompanied by the BBC One programme's executive producer Steven Moffatt when they head out on their world tour jaunt in August for publicity and fan events.
It begins in the UK, visiting Cardiff on August 7, moving on to London and winding up in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil on August 19. Along the route it will call in to South Korea, Australia, the US and Mexico.
Fans saw Peter become the latest regeneration of the Doctor at Christmas and he has spent the past few months working on his first full series, starring alongside Jenna who returns as assistant Clara.
Show bosses say it is the largest promotional tour undertaken for the show which is seen around the world and is on a high after its 50th anniversary celebrations last year. A special episode, The Day Of The Doctor, was broadcast in 98 countries simultaneously and was seen in more than 1,500 cinemas.
Peter said of the tour: "It's fantastic that so many people across the world love Doctor Who. After eight months solid filming deep in the world of monsters, Jenna and I are thrilled to be heading for the planet of fans."
Amanda Hill, the chief brands officer at the corporation's commercial arm BBC Worldwide, said: "Doctor Who encompasses British creativity at its best and we're passionate about it being on the world stage.
"This tour is something normally reserved for Hollywood blockbusters but with Doctor Who it appears you can do anything you dream of and continue to challenge what's perceived as the norm in TV."
Further details of the itinerary will be posted at www.doctorwho.tv/worldtour and the series - which includes guest roles for Frank Skinner, Ben Miller and Keeley Hawes - will be screened from August.
Steven Moffat has revealed that the next series of Doctor Who will see some major changes.
The hit show's writer suggested that the casting of Peter Capaldi as the 12th incarnation of the Time Lord has brought about much-needed tweaks, as he spoke at Hay Festival, reported Metro.
"We haven't made much of a change to Doctor Who since it came back in 2005. It's been the same show. It's maybe amped some things up and lowered some other things, but it's basically the same," he said.
"I just felt it needs to be a bit more different now. It needs to be surprising again!" he added.
Steven said casting a "handsome, yet quirky, young man with entertaining hair" would have resulted in the long-running sci-fi series becoming too formulaic.
"It would have just exposed the formula. We'd have found somebody great and people would have liked him, but the show would have just become that little bit more ordinary," he continued.
Peter replaced Matt Smith as the Doctor in the final scene of last year's Christmas special.
The 56-year-old will be joined by companion Jenna Coleman in the show's new series, which is expected to begin in August.PUNY HUMANS!Comment
