BBC America is doing a big send off for Matt Smith an hour before the special airs. They didn't do that for David Tennant.

Well that was a huge disappointment after the Day of the Doctor SPOILER

Matt was very good though and I liked how he got old in the specia and I reallyl liked the less glowy regeneration. .I liked to see Amy come back and yeah no River. I hated the human daleks again

Totally awesome finale! Nice send off , & the ending was touching not maudlin like Tennant's.
Looking forward to Capaldi's run. Hopefully they've wrapped up everything from the last three series now, and we can start fresh without a great deal of reference to all the more recent companions. I'd like to see a totally new direction for the next series. Of course, Clara is still around and her family is still waiting around the Christmas table. Guess we know where next Christmas' special might be starting.
Goodbye Matt Smith. You turned out to be a pretty awesome Doctor. I remember when he was announced we were all worried about him being too young, and romance in the Tardis, and the show jumping the shark. Glad I was wrong. Matt was a great Doctor, I'll miss him!

Loved Day of the Doctor - HATED Time of the Doctor.

I just didn't like it - for one thing it was hard to follow --- but i'm not a fan of most regeneration stories save Planet of the Spiders and The Parting of the Ways.

Only upside was them finally settling the how many times regeneration question.

Question, if Smith is officially #13 (which he admitted) does that make the Valeyard from between Tennant and Smith ?---- aka "I don't wanna go"

No idea. I think they're pretty much ignoring The Valeyard now. Will admit I did like how Smith sort of look like Hartnell at the end. Just with a bowtie.

I think that was the worst episode of Doctor Who ever. Heck of a way to go out. Granted the 11th has been pretty terrible anyway, but that whole episode was a giant waste of time. It's clear Moffat has no real long term plans and is just throwing whatever to see if it sticks. And I thought RTD was bad with dues ex machina stuff, but at least he always made it seem epic.

Seriously... Probably the worst episode I can ever recall and easily the worst Christmas special to date. Moffat needs to go so bad. Show is just spiraling out of control. I suspect there's potential with the 12th but sadly so many of the fan base are going to leave anyway, since its not a cute guy as the Doctor... But maybe a blessing in disguise if they can get Moffat gone.

New guy here so this was the first regeneration episode watched "live". I think they were painted in the corner having this follow the 50th anniversary special. Kind of like having a birthday party the day after Christmas...only in reverse. No way this was going to equal the sheer epicness of the other. Having said that, I thought the ending was great and very touching. The first part of the episode was hard to follow for me and the family, but again, we're new. Nice callback to Smith's very first episode.

Still not really sure how the new guy is going to work out. But, it's going to be so long before any new episodes air, everyone will probably welcome the show back no matter what.

I enjoyed it but it certainly needed a trim time wise. I had just watched the End of Time again and that's an overlong mess, so my hopes weren't real high.

I did appreciate the storylines being wrapped up and many of the fun concepts crammed in there. I'll miss Smith, easily my favourite modern Doctor and era but I'm looking forward to seeing what Capaldi has in store.

They've mentioned the Valeyard in "Name of the Doctor' and I think that's all we're going to get is a nod. "Trial" is largely considered a mistake.

I caught that Hartnell vibe too, it seems to be a nice way to say "Full Circle".

Yeah, I watched that one a month or so ago. I think someone compared it to the ending of LOTR: Return of the King, going on, and on and on, and when you think it's going to end, it keeps going. My son jokingly refers to Tennant as "the whiny doctor" because of this episode.

The episode was ok but need to rewatch it again at some point,as I too found it hard to follow at first.Sad to see Smith leave,I hope Capaldi works out as the new Dr,I just keep thinking of him as Caecilius from The Fires of Pompeii episode.

Day of the Doctor made me forget why I couldn't stand most of the Matt Smith era --- Time of the Doctor was nostalgic in reminding me why

No disrespect to Matt whom I think is my favorite New Series Doctor.

                              SPOILERS SPOILERS!!!!!

I think that Smith should have turned to the audience mid-episode, scratched the top of his head, and said "That's another fine mess you got me into, Moffat!"

As much as I loved the 50th, this is the total opposite.
A very messy script (with the whole Xmas theme dragged into it), classic villains who are just there to fill up the background, and humor that doesn't really seem to fit into it all.

                              Let's say something positive, too.
I loved the concept of the Doctor growing old. As we've become accustomed, Smith plays it really well.
His farewell words are moving, and seeing him remove his bowtie was quite touching. I shall miss Smith, it took a while but he really became a joy to watch, a Doctor totally in love with life and the universe, and strong when he needed to be.
I wish Matt had left in the 50th instead of this.
Correction, I wish he would have stayed on for a while longer!

This is becoming quite a tradition, really bad Xmas Who. I think I'll just skip the next one.

Looking forward to Capaldi, I wonder how he'll be and what he'll wear.
I do hope they'll keep the Tardis interior, which is a favorite of mine!
                              .
                              .
                              .
"When things are at their darkest, it's a brave man that can kick back and party."

and I see him as the buracrat who sold out the world "under orders" in Torchwood children of Earth. I'ms sure there were people who said they always saw Colin as Galifreyan Guard Cmdr Maxil from Arc of Infinity too back in the day
