and i've wanted an older Doctor ever since DT stated snoggin everybody.

and they really need to stop wasting regenerations with every 3 years, i always thought Pertwee was just right at 5 years.

I know they were pre clara it was easier to post the links than try to explain the thing

I agree that pertwee probably best at 5 (but having the same production staff the whole time didn't hurt either) while the last year Tom semed done in but he went through 3 producers in his tenure. 3 yrs really is the common tenure for a Doctor in both era's.

I would be comfortable with 4 years to 5 years. Mostly because the format is different now. It's a 1 hour ep. per week = 1 story. Only 2 parters really have the cliffhanger endings anymore. That' a bit of a tradition lost on the newer viewers.

River Song can come back no matter what. They keep meeting out of order. Maybe there's a story angle in that fact? Just because Clara met the "dead" River Song doesn't mean she won't meet the "living" River Song. I don't even think of Alex Kingston as that old. She doesn't look old.

I think it was a brave move to go with an older Doctor, and I'm happy about it. I loved Matt Smith, he did a fantastic job, but I'm glad that the new Doctor is different.
If the younger crowd is all that happy, I doubt it.
I checked out quite a few Who sites, and the main opinion seems to be "yeah, he's old and ugly (in those precise terms), but maybe he will be ok and have some young assistants!". The words "ugly" and "unappealing" crop up quite often. I guess they were hoping for Bieber-Doctor. Thankfully, they didn't make any of the casting decisions...

Look at that pic on page one and tell me Matt Smith wouldn't make a great Frankenstein monster...at least visually. He has some Karloff like attributes. It's odd.

I'm dreading this special, and anticipating it at the same time. I've never gone through Regeneration Anxiety. I'm not sure how my son is going to handle this. He's a huge fan of Smith now.

You know now that I think about it, even though I love the Cybermen I don't care for most of their stories including from the classic series.

My fav's are probably The Tenth Planet and The Invasion - beyond them most others are kinda blah

With Doctor Who being 50 years old it's hard to think of someone that has never been through a regeneration. If you think it hard imagine how the people felt when the 1st Doctor regenerated, at least you are prepared by knowing the history of the show.
