    TV/Movie Obssessions

I'm watching TZ's "Eye of the Beholder" for probably the 60th time right now and thinking of TV & film I just can't pass up for sheer entertainment, craft, & storytelling. Many of these I watch monthly:

TZ--Eye of the Beholder, Time Enough at Last

ST: TOS--Devil in the Dark, Balance of Terror, Journey to Babel

    Batman '66--Hizzoner the Penguin...

    The Third Man

    Wizard of Oz

    The Abominable Dr. Phibes

Auntie Mame & His Girl Friday

A&R: Shall We Dance, Top Hat

    Dr. No & Goldfinger

    The Addams Family (series)

Whatever Happened to Baby Jane & Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte

Hitch: Shadow of a Doubt, Rear Window, & North by Northwest

    Bride of Frankenstein

    Nightmare before Christmas

    Raiders of the Lost Ark

    7 Faces of Dr. Lao

    Stalag 17

What TV/movies consistently engage, entertain, & comfort you?

I get engrossed in any of the Original Cast Star Trek movies, except swap Generations for First Contact, when they are on TV and end up watching them.

Same TOS episodes as you plus a few like "Space Seed"

I used to watch Star Gate SG1 and Atlantis constantly when they were on SciFi in heavy rotation. Not as much now that I have to get out the DVDs. :(

The whole first season of The Transformers (the show now known as "G1"). Also The Transformers: The Movie (The original animated one.)

Raiders is on there for me too plus the other Indy movies (even Crystal Skull. I know. I'm a philistine.)

    The Star Wars Saga.

A lot of Disney movies like Mulan, Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Princess and the Frog, etc. Plus some of the other big budget Animated movies like the Madagascar series, Ice Age series, and Rio.

Some of the newer TV animation series; Phineas and Ferb, Slug Terra, Max Steel, My Little Pony: FIM, and Transformers: Prime.

        Hmmmm....

I watch the MST3K disks over and over.... playing them in the background like most folks play the radio.

I go through waves of stuff. Right now it's Johnny Sokko and Spectreman. Mostly 'cos I've been working on a monster game and need to do research. (For the writing and making models.)

I watch MST, UFO and Venture Brothers a lot.

Hammer and Independent International horror movies are in heavy rotation in my office.

I've got some work to hand out, because I want some of that free time some folks here seem to have. I'm lucky to get in my daily sports digest of 'Around the Horn' and 'Pardon the Interruption'. I can't fathom having the casual time to watch movies and TV shows over and over. I applaud those who can. That's wonderful. The only thing I'm put in front of (repeatedly) is whatever my grandson wants to watch which is often something-Batman. Here lately it's been Clooney Batman (ALOT). But of course with him watching it, content means nothing. It's always quality time. Although I will say it's distressing to discover things I overlooked in this movie. It's truly a scary film on so many levels.

Presently, I am listening to the soothing sound of Nimoy on In Search Of.

I recently watched all of DS9.

Let me think, my old repeat list was:

              Star Wars Trilogy
              Star Trek and TOS
              movies.
TNG and TAS was watched on air.
              Predator 1 and 2
              Total Recal
              Commando
              Rambo
              VanDamme stuff.
              Clint Eastwood stuff.
              Highlander
              Excalibur
              The Crow
              A Bridge Too Far
              Kelley's Heroes
              Death Wish 3
              Under Siege
              Nightmare on Elm Street Movies.
              James Bond
              Enter the Dragon
              Apes of course.
              Ben Hur
              The Omega Man
              Soylent Green
              2001
              2010
              Dune
              Conan
              The Beastmaster

              Some various action movies.

-I wasted too much time on modern since Deadwood in 2004.

Hit SW prequel hard and TLotR.

Hobbit about 5 times after theater. Waiting for EE, november.

              Oh, SGA too.
Then re-met Space 1999 Buck Rogers and TOBSG. Then hit Blake's 7 hard. Then finally watched Voyager 3 to 7.

Now I try to watch what I did not encounter before, or watch decades old stuff that's not remembered as much.

              Had a G.I. Joe 'binge'.

Now on Transformers S2, skipped a little S3 for the characters. S4 was bad. Rest good, don't have 80's movie, that was awesome.

Netflix needs to get Thundercats and Scooby Doo.

I don't get to go through my favorites with any consistency. Instead of just vegging out in front of bad TV I really need to pop in some DVDs or something. But Halloween is coming up, so a Universal/Hammer Horror fest is in my future. I think the boy is old enough now to handle most of the pre TNA Hammer movies.

I have yet to get much Hammer Horror on DVD, & although I own most Universal stuff, I enjoy TCM & Svengoolie. I like POTA (first two esp.), Bruce Lee, & Beastmaster, too, Klost.

I'm in an AIP/Price groove right now.

                      Forgot to mention:
                      Indy
                      Ghostbusters
                      Animal House
                      Spies Like Us
                      Stripes
                      other SNL crew...
                      Apocalypse Now
                      FMJ and Kubrick films
                      A Man in the Wilderness
                      Jeremiah Johnson
                      The Mountain Men
                      Blade Runner
                      a little Logan's Run.

I did have my Hammer fest a couple years ago.
Lee, Cushing, Reed, a few others.

                      I did meet Caroline Munro.

                      I also watched much of
Baa Baa Black Sheep, Kolchak, Tales of the Gold Monkey, The Wild Wild West and The Rat Patrol. Most of The A-Team. Banacek. UFO, Omega Factor, Tons of The X-Files. Highlander, Forever Knight (add large wild cat growl here), Lovejoy, Red Dwarf, Wiseguy, Crime Story, The Avengers tv, The Incredible Hulk, Wonder Woman, Kung Fu (Shatner is in one) Still working on Man From U.N.C.L.E.

I viewed all of Farscape and SG1, SGU.

                      I learned that shows like
MacGyver and Magnum P.I. are really difficult to get through, even with a side of internet work or fun. Fun for about 3 seasons. Tough after that.

BB, SOA, Dexter, True Blood, Nucky, Rome.

                      Ronin
                      The Matrix
                      Watchmen
                      V for Vendetta
                      All Batman
                      Hellboy 1, 2.
                      The Avengers
                      Iron Man

                      That's about it.

                      Fascination with tv, film.

With Halloween coming, it gives me an excuse to drag out my horror movies.
I'll definitely watch A&B meets Frankenstein, bride of Frankenstein, a Wolfman, Young Frankenstein, American Werewolf in London, Dracula Prince of Darkness, Monster Squad, Fat Albert Halloween Special and whatever I can catch on Turner Classics. Vincent Price is TCM's star of the month, so they'll be playing his films all month. I hope to catch a few of them.

I generally watch Nightmare before Christmas to close out Halloween and kick off my Christmas viewing season. I'm a huge Christmas movie fan, particularly the old ones and also the Christmas specials. I've got more Christmas DVDs than I ever have time to watch in one Christmas season. But after Thanksgiving those will make up the bulk of my viewing, except for my weekly trip to the movie theater.

I wish I could have movies on in the background when I do my paperwork or write, but it draws my attention away and I make mistakes. I can't even listen to music with lyrics and work.

I don't have any movies I watch monthly, but if the Quiet Man or the Searchers, Sgt. York, North by Northwest, Bride of Frankenstein, Wolfman, Casablanca, Flash Gordon, Tarzan flicks, When Harry met Sally, Animal House or Superman are on, I generally watch.

TCM has a huge Price library to choose from, all the way from early Universal, contract days at Fox, various studios in the 50s, & AIP in the 60-early 70s--his whole career basically.

It should be a GREAT month, & long overdue on TCM.

Right now, it's all about Breaking Bad.

I ADORE The Avengers with Dianna Rigg/Emma Peel...can't get enough of both the show and her, lol.

Years past, I would've said Star Trek: The Next Generation, but it has not aged well, and ironically, the original series has (timeless)...so today, I now much prefer the adventurous Kirk and company over Picard's politically correct ship. I prefer DS9 over TNG as well..

Seinfeld, I never get tired of Seinfeld.

As far as movies, too many to list, but the ALIEN series I dig a lot...and of course, Superman 1&2, and the original Star Wars Trilogy.

                            Too many, too many...
