Well, I do like special features. I sometimes don't get to all of them but I do want to have the whole package.Comment

I love special features and if was going to buy this it would make me mad. But since i haven't seen it yet as a protest to JJ's ruining Star Trek, i don't care."Hang on Lady... We go for a RIDE!" - Shorty to Willie Scott.Best movie line from Indiana Jones & the Temple Of DoomComment

Most modern films have special features that are pretty bland. ("We did this special effect using... Computers! Ooh ahhhh!"). I find making of material for older, iconic films to be much more attractive.
I too, wouldn't have bought this at full retail, since the film was a crushing disappointment for me. But I think this is a rotten precedent for Paramount to be setting.Comment

Well, I rented it to see how the film played and I have to tell everyone, I thought the movie was excellent. It played SOOOOO much better than anything in the trailers. Once again... Poor marketing. I thought the movie was actually one of the better ones in the ENTIRE movie series (including the originals). And the special effects were the best I've ever seen for the Enterprise. When it's getting pummeled, I was just blown away. But a very good movie. I recommend it highly. Even my wife was on the edge of her seat and she doesn't have a Trek cell in her body, when it comes to being a fan. We got done watching it and I said to wife, "This director is going to kick arse on the Star Wars sequels!" His treatment in this movie is EXACTLY what the new Star Wars movies need. Edgy, dangerous, and no guarantees of anyone's survivability.Comment

^ Totally, agree with your and Jason's opinion of the movie. To me it was the best of the big tent-pole movies of the summer. I don't care about box office or old Star Trek continuity. I enjoyed those shows and movies then; I'm enjoying this version now. It was great on the IMAX screen. I bought the Blu-ray version for $19 at Walmart and it the first Abrams Trek film was packaged with it. Yeah, some fringe family member will be getting that Trek film for Christmas.
As for the extras, yeah, I don't like how they are parceled out. It sucks. I won't see any of the ones that didn't come on the disc I bought at Wal-Mart.
But, you're not being ripped off if the disc you bought includes what it states it includes on the package.
When you buy bran flakes, you're not being ripped off because it didn't have raisins just because another box of bran cereal includes raisins.
If you want a more complete package, wait 6 months or a year and buy when it comes out then.
That being said, I hope the blowback Paramount is getting keeps it and other companies from parceling out the special features in the same manner in the future.Comment

I got the set with the four section insignia pins. I've worn one of those pins like twice since I got it.
Not only did this come with the cool ship but it also has a neat metal dvd case. Pics of my set before and after opening:

I saw it in the theater, and liked it, but liked the first one better. They could have easily used a different bad guy in this one without having to call him Khan. I liked the character a lot, but his motivations were a little odd. Hey here's my crew I'm wanting to save, I'm going to load them into Photon tubes??? The Dreadnought was cool, but not used enough in the film. I was also a little annoyed with all of the platform jumping that went on towards the end.
But I liked it!Comment

I still can't believe the positive reception this film received. Magic blood! Khan has magic blood! And since McCoy synthesized it, no one in Star Trek need worry about death ever again. Heck, Kirk was revived without any brain damage! Win!Comment
