    Black Hole Maximilian: Kate's father?

I always wondered this. Anyone else?

It had to be. Didn't old Bob spill the beans on that? Remember at the end when you could see through his helmet and see a human face?

It's been rumored for decades that Reinhardt used McCrae's mental patterns as the basis for Maximillian's AI, as punishment for leading the original mutiny aboard the Cygnus.

Some have even speculated that the luminous "angelic" being seen at the end of the movie is McCrae's consciousness assisting the surviving Palomino crew, having finally escaped the confines of Maximilian.

(And of course Reinhardt himself ultimately becomes trapped within Maximilian, as a symbolic element of poetic justice.)

I love the Black Hole and never thought of this.

Reason being I always thought of the robots as being seperate entities than the humaniods

It does explain why Reinhardt would say "protect me from Maximilian" --- which makes no sense

I always thought it was this, (Reinhardt himself ultimately becomes trapped within Maximilian) but having McCrae as Max would make sense.... Reinhardt scared of Max etc....

What do you guys think of a new Black Hole movie? I like the original, but liked the material enough that I wouldn't mind seeing more of it. If they could do a Tron type revisit that would be pretty cool I think.

A new movie wouldn't interest me

One of the things I like about the original is the semi all star cast

A new version would never do that

              Hmmmm....

I think you're right about the robots and humanoids being different things, and using the mental patterns to program the robots makes sense. We saw that it's possible for them to share a psychic link with humans.

I remember WAY back in the day that the humnaoid they unmasked was supposed to be Kate's father. I think that was in the novelization.

              >If they could do a Tron type revisit that would be pretty cool I think

I dunno. Part of what made the original unique was that it's SO weird. And THAT came about 'cos there was behind the secenes bickering over wether the film was a kids film or a grownups film. I think a new move would lose a lot of that, and what you'd be left with is a generic space actioner.

Although.... "Tron: Renegade" is awesome! So a Black Hole series, done as well.... maybe showing the uprising on the Cygnus.... might be cool.

The best thing a new movie can do is prompt a good blu ray release of the original.

For the longest time it felt like Disney disowned The Black Hole

Maximillian as Kates Father!? *Mind Blown* But it all makes sense now, the pieces all fit. Why spend time talking about a character we never see? Foreshadowing. Why Kill the scientist, but not her? Perhaps to scare her off the ship? Do we know for sure that it was Rhinehardt that was in him in the end, if it was does it mean that the one that was trapped was released? If thats the case why use a female form?

I didn't think it was female - as a matter of fact I thought it was suppose to be Jesus when I first seen it

Hmm. I'd hope if there was a cool hidden character in Maximilian/McRae, the author would not be so overtly "lame" with the medieval dante "Heaven is white with crystal arches and hell is a place with pichforked devils" version of eternity. Especially as it shows the rocket travel through this place heading towards an unidentified planetoid destination!

I've struggled with the ending for a while, as it completely departed from the tone of the film and served no plot or character development function. I just chalked it up to the screenwriter wanting to mimic the crazy Arthur Clarke ending of 2001.

Well, it is clear that the "hell" sequence if really the twisted metal of the burning Cygnus. And they thought it would be cute to have a "heavenly transition to the group on the outside of the Black Hole.

You could crib an explanation from Warhammer 40K. In 40K warp space is actually psychoreactive, and emotions and ideas take physical form there. Maybe the interior of a black hole works the same; a weird warp gate kinda thing wherein the physical essence is influenced and transformed by strong mental energies? So the biblical visions are the product of the minds and wills of the spirits released into it by the death of the crew of the Cygnus. It becomes "hell" 'cos that's what the lobotomized crewmen liken their existence to.
