We had a creepy kid on the show. It is too unsettling. Plus, kids can't emote or act.

    Are you my mummy?

Yeah I still don't sleep well when I think of that creepy thing.

Great choice. Finally an older actor in the role once again.

I wonder which outfit they'll pick for him?
            I'm guessing something pretty modern.
And will he be packing a sonic screwdriver?

He'll be the second oldest actor after William Hartnell to take over the role as the Doctor - and i'm not complaining

BTW, will this be River's REAL Doctor ? ..... or was her's the 13th and final ?

I want a doctor who borrows fashion from across the decades.

Wonder how he'd look in parachute pants and a coonskin cap?

I'm still wondering what was the motive of letting the news out now rather than later when the series comes back ?

It just seems weird --- almost like it was spoiled

For a while they had me and a lot of people thinking the next Doctor really might be John Hurt.

                    Why spoil that ?

                    I don't get it

I'd guess the news was rather hard to contain, seeing how Capaldi was being named as official days before... This way the Bbc gets a huge ratings bump with the special worldwide and the series moves forward. I also think it means they want to start filming on the new series soon, maybe even before all the holiday specials air, and this avoids heavier than usual secrecy. It might even mean they are using some of the same sets, as in the new series continues directly on from the Christmas show. We might even get the show back then sooner than Easter next year, maybe a full series instead of two short ones.

It's a way to draw attention, so more people will watch the regeneration episode. Instead of it being a surprise, which is too hard to pull off these days...

I don't see how you could think John Hurt would be the new Doctor as they already placed him as a previous regeneration. The numbering of The Doctors probably won't change as he isn't "The Doctor". He's not considered a Doctor by his other regenerations much the way The Valeyard isn't a Doctor.

Thinking about what Hurt said, about doing what he did without a choice, seems to echo a line Eccleston's Doctor said in one of his episodes about things he had done during the Time War.

I still believe Hurt is an aged McGann.
