    Max Von Sydow Appreciation Thread

    I like this Actor alot.
He gave us quite a few Memorible Characters in Sci-Fi and Fictional Timeless Movies. I feel like He's just 1 of those Guys, that you throw him in there ..., and He instantly Makes the Movie Better with his Presents of Character and the Way He recited His Lines. The Dude was Frick'in Ming, Chief Justice Opposite Stallone, Maid Marions Father-in-Law Opposite Russel Crow ..., And a King ..., Opposite Schwarzenegger ..., Just to name some work ...

    Hail Ming !
... The Original Knight ..., Often Imitated, However Never Duplicated. The 1st Knight in Customs.

He's a great actor. I wish he got more heroic parts in his later years. Christopher Plummer and him seem to play the the same type villainous parts in most later movies.

He is a great villain, though.

Great actor, title character of The Exorcist.....I think he was in The Day of the Jackal, too.....although I've never seen it. He also played Jesus in The Greatest Story Ever Told. Great actor, you can't say that enough.

He was great in The Virgin Spring, but a warning: it can be thematically rough to watch.

You're right: he is one of those actors that escalates the quality of any production by just being in it.

His cameo in the uncut version of the Wolfman remake was quite good, and made the movie that much better.

My favorite (and only) Max Von Sydow story.

He spoke at one of my film classes years ago in College.
After viewing his current film (Pelle the Conquerer) and hearing him speak,
the floor was opened for questions.

After all the Bergman questions were asked, I ventured forth.

"Mr. Von Sydow, you're one of our greatest living actors. ( Applause)
Why did you do films like Strange Brew and Flash Gordon?

MVS pauses for a moment, then gives a pitch perfect Ming the Merciless laugh, saying
"I love to do comedy" and then another laugh, his and the classroom's.

Truly a classy guy who knows how to have fun.

I discovered him in Three days of the Condor. I saw it at a very young age, and he left more of an impression on me than anyone else.

He was great in Virgin Spring. As I recall, he wrestles a small tree to the ground in a very powerful scene. Of course, it was more or less remade as Last House on the Left, which I kind of hate.

The amazing combination of Dick Smith's naturalistic aging makeup and Max Von Sydow himself made everyone think he was really an old man back in 1973 in The Exorcist.

                          Great actor.

Awesome in The Seventh Seal, The Exorcist, Flash Gordon, Dune, Judge Dredd.... and a great turn as the villain in Strange Brew!

And he's still giving us top performances... recently he was great in The Wolfman and Solomon Kane, and was the pretty much the highlight of Ridley Scott's Robin Hood.

                            Very nice man.
I met him years ago, when he was attending a film festival. I think he does a lot of movies for fun without really thinking about it too much.
I had him sign a photo from him in Dune (which had been released a couple of years ago), and his first question was "which movie is this from?"
                            .
                            .
                            .
"When things are at their darkest, it's a brave man that can kick back and party."
