And inspired by "The Tempest", too, which is one of my favourite works by Shakespeare."

P.S. BTW, Shakespeare didn't know jack about nuclear reactors, ray guns, spaceships, or robots for that matter...

I think Roddenberry borrowed even more than Lucas did from it.

        Agreed.

Forbidden Planet is a lot more Star Trek-like than Star Wars.

I always thought Leslie played kinda dirty against the second in command when going after the girl.

Capt Kirk wouldn't do that --- Kirk wouldn't NEED to

Both the hologram of a cute girl, and the film ending with an exploding planet; that's the way to end a science fiction movie!

I remember the first real on-screen appearance of the Id creature was trimmed very short for TV when I watched this as a kid. It was only when I watched the movie at a repertory cinema that I got to see the monster in the force-field really clearly.

Many early TV showings came from prints made for MGM Children's Matinee series. These versions would cut the Jerry Farnum/Altara kissing scene and perhaps had a couple other edits.

Oh thanks for the explanation, I thought it was a quite strange scene to trim.

This is one of my favourite sci-fi classics, loves me abit of Robbie the Robot, great set designs and the music is also atmospheric for the film.

Just a heads up,Play.com is selling the Ultimate collection of this film, region 1 though, with the collectors tin set, lobby cards and a die cast Robbie, for about $19 US or £12 GBP it's a great price.

Sorry, Bruce, didn't see that. Great minds think alike...

And who says Shakespeare didn't know about ray guns?
You obviously haven't heard about "William Shakespeare, Alien Hunter"...

Ann Francis-Honey West....is the main reason I love this movie and what a shame Leslie Neilsen never made a movie to spoof this......
