    Forbidden Planet

It's on Comcast Xfinity OnDemand right now...

If you have not seen it yet...do yourself a favor...and get ready to watch one of the best sci-fi movies of all times.

Sure...it has a couple of dated scenarios (mainly concerning the "girl" and the need of a "cook" for example)...but overall...what a progressive ahead of its time film...hard to believe filmmakers had this vision back in 1956...and folks...Gene Roddenberry was definitely heavily influenced by this movie...for Forbidden Planet is the precursor of Star Trek (Lost in Space as well for that matter)...the similarities are uncanny.

A couple of things about Forbidden Planet...it's the first ever big Hollywood film where the entire story takes place on an alien planet. It features an all electronic soundtrack (no musical instrumentation)...and Robbie the Robot is just not a background hunk of metal...he's a relevant character, just as important as any human actor.

I love all the science talk of Forbidden Planet...a very cerebral film...with wonderful set designs.

Saw in in HD...now I want to own the Blu-ray copy, to see what's on the extras, lol...

Love me some "Forbidden Planet!" If you pay close attention, you can hear sounds effects in it that science-fiction movies have used ever since! And who doesn't love Robby the Robot!!!!
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

Great movie. One of the all time sci-fi classics.

And inspired by "The Tempest", too, which is one of my favourite works by Shakespeare.

Great movie. Just look at the wonderful sets and SPFX, very imaginative. Robby is, of course, a real classic. And Leslie Nielsen before he went all "comedy".
It's an intelligent story, without a need for aggresive aliens with rayguns, and without all the explosions and chases we seem to get these days.

Lucas borrowed heavily from this film.

It looked like it was some sort of "repulser" ray or maybe itnjust stung the monkey and he took off.

What I want to know, looking at the poster: Robby is carrying the girl. How the hell did he manage to bend over to pick her up?

I first it when i was ten or eleven on "Magic Shadows", it had a real impact on me. Even in the age of Star Wars, Forbidden Planet wowed this kid.
