Amen to that.
There's nothing wrong with picking a Scottish actor to play the part of a Scottish Immortal.
But he'd need to be intelligible, with a light accent.
If someone Scottish gets picked and has one of those REALLY heavy accents, I don't see the movie succeeding.
And there are Highlands in more than one country; like Spain, France, etc.
It's just that the Highlands we are most familiar with are those of Scotland.
I'd like to see a Highlander from the Highlands of say Northern Spain.
After all, the Gauls, who were the predecessors of modern Spaniards, also explored the British Isles in the FAR distant past, and became the Gaels.JediJaidaComment

Lots of folk have expressed their desire to see Gerard Butler in the role. How about picking a...Scottish actor for this part?
It wouldn't be a bad choice, to be honest.
Oh well.PUNY HUMANS!Comment

Gerard Butler's an awesome actor, but for the converse of the reason he'd be good in this role--being Scottish, namely--it really irritated me when he was cast as Beowulf in Beowulf & Grendel. Why cast a Scot as a Geat? He didn't even try to hide his accent. In fact, I'm not sure he can fake any other accents--he sounded pretty Scottish as a Spartan, too. Also, I think he and Ewan McGregor might be too old to play MacLeod in a reboot, though--maybe 10 or 12 years ago. Actually, James McAvoy is both a Scot and about the right age.Comment

Yes, and he almost signed up for it. But he bowed out, and now they're saying it might be Jeremy Renner.Wasn't he going to play Snake Plissken in the Escape remake?
Butler's age doesn't worry me.Also, I think he and Ewan McGregor might be too old to play MacLeod in a reboot, though--maybe 10 or 12 years ago.
In the original movie, MacLeod was "killed" by the Kurgan at the age of 18, and as immortals stop ageing when they initially "die", Lambert was technically way too old to play the character, too.
They could simply have him "die" at a later age in the reboot, anyway.PUNY HUMANS!Comment
