I watched "The Black Hole" for the first time since I was a kid because of this thread.

I still wasn't crazy about it - but I did give it another shot!

2001 A Space Odyssey because I am a huge Arthur C Clarke fan. Childhood's End would be fantastic. Rama is supposedly being talked about:

Welcome aboard, Phobos (love the handle, BTW); good to know there's another ACC enthusiast on the boards. I would so freak out to see a good version of the RAMA series!!!
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

One of my favorites that probably no one will mention is "Time After Time."

H.G. Wells (Malcom McDowell) follows Jack the Ripper (David Warner) into the future (1979) in his time machine. I saw it when I was around 10 and it sent to the encyclopedias to learn more about Wells and Jack the Ripper.

Nice uncomplicated time travel flick with a very cute but slightly annoying Mary Steenburgen as the love interest.

Star Wars. It was fresh and innovative and lots of eye candy the likes of which hadn't been seen prior. 2nd could possibly be the 1984 David Lynch interpretation of Dune. Just a great multi-level story set to some really creative and artistic backdrops.
